Dennis Rodman had a storied career playing with the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls.  After his short stint with the Dallas Mavericks, he was ousted from the NBA in 2000. However, that did not mean the end of his basketball magic. After facing a $26,000 loss, he made a stunning debut in Britain’s Basketball league in 2006. Like all Rodman stories, this also has an intriguing part.

Recently, Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse. who coached Rodman in England, sat for a conversation on the fans’ favorite ‘The Pat Bev Podcast.’ During the conversation, one of the hosts asked Nurse about his experience of having coached the 5x NBA champion.

The 56-year-old revealed that Rodman’s unique and charming persona was taking over the people of England as they got to see more of him in the popular English TV show, ‘Celebrity Big Brother’. Following this they decided to offer him a deal to play for 3 games with the Brighton Bears.

Recalling his time with the legend, Nurse said, “And he’s become this household name in England. So, literally, we get a call one day, and the guy, he says, ‘See if Rodman will come play once he gets voted off the house.’”

He added, “OK, I just called the owner or the sponsor of the team, ‘Yeah, man, let’s do it’… And he got voted off and he came down and it was wild, man. We had like completely sold out, over 150 press credentials.”

Well, thanks to the reality show, the Worm‘s reputation skyrocketed in England. He might have not been able to win the $26,000 prize money of the competition but he made a great comeback in the BBL. It was Nick’s idea to bring in Rodman who worked as a game changer for the franchise.

Dennis Rodman’s impressive performance in the BBL

As mentioned before, the 5x NBA champion still had more to prove to the basketball enthusiasts. At the age of 45, he pulled down a BBL record 23 rebounds. The Worm signed a 3-game contract worth $75,000.

He led the Brighton Bears with a 91-88 win against the Guildford Heat. Even if the BBL was not as fierce as NBA, Rodman’s energy and skill, considering his age, were remarkable.
