“Going to the Clippers was like the worst.” That’s how 2× All-Star Baron Davis described his stint with the Los Angeles Clippers. It was a period marred by controversies largely due to owner Donald Sterling. While numerous former players have publicly criticized Sterling for his wrongdoings, Davis was the latest to give his two cents. During a recent podcast, Davis opened up about his painful experiences, taking a dig at Sterling and shedding light on the chaos within the franchise.

On Draymond Green’s podcast, the 4x champion asked Davis about his experience of leaving the Golden State Warriors for the Clippers. “Terrible, man,” Davis responded on The Draymond Green Show. He then admitted that joining the Clippers was the worst decision of his life. Initially, after leaving the Warriors, he thought it was a “bad soap opera,” but soon realized the Clippers were a “bad soap opera in prison.” This vivid comparison reveals the toxic environment under Sterling’s ownership.

Interestingly, Davis grew up as a Lakers fan, dreaming of one day wearing the purple and gold. However, the Lakers showed no interest, leading him to join the other LA team, hoping to recreate the “We Believe” magic of his GSW days. During his two-and-a-half seasons with the Clippers, Davis averaged respectable numbers: 14.6 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 7.6 APG per game.

While illustrating his frustrations with a metaphor, Davis shared it like being in an art class where all his tools were taken away. “Then they give them back to you when you’re painting but they keep hitting your elbows while you’re painting,” he further said. This example painted a clear picture of the constant interference and lack of support he felt while with the Clippers, making it nearly impossible to succeed.

Moreover, Davis shared he felt an oppressive atmosphere at the Clippers’ facility as whenever he went, he felt someone was always about to snitch on him. He also revealed that daily, players would cry because of the owner. This toxic culture, driven by Sterling’s behavior, turned what should have been a professional sports environment into a living nightmare for many players.

Baron Davis didn’t mince his words on Donald Sterling earlier either

The controversy surrounding Donald Sterling’s ownership of the LA Clippers exploded when audio clips of his racist comments surfaced online. However, fans didn’t realize that Sterling’s bad reputation among players had been festering for a while due to his behavior. During a podcast, Baron Davis described Sterling as not just explicitly racist but as someone who harbored hate towards everyone.

Davis didn’t mince his words, labeling Sterling as “a weird motherf**er.” Furthermore, he highlighted that the people surrounding Sterling were equally bizarre. The 45-year-old also clarified that Sterling appeared to despise everyone, including himself. “He was delusional and hateful, so he would say anything to anybody, women, man, black, brown,” Davis explained.
