When a player retires, their name often fades into the past. But for Carmelo Anthony, that’s not the case. While his son, Kiyan Anthony, is making waves in college basketball, Carmelo is making moves off the court. The Anthonys aren’t just another father-son duo; they’re rewriting their own basketball legacy. Carmelo Anthony is setting his sights on a new goal: team ownership. The former NBA star is planning to buy the Washington Wizards. The NBA franchise is valued at around $4.1 billion. Unlike other ex-players who bought small shares, Anthony wants full control. He believes his experience as a player gives him an edge.
On his podcast, 7PM in Brooklyn, he confidently stated, “I’ll be a great owner, by the way… I’m a former player. I understand players… Understand personnel… Understand strategy.” While it’s still in the discussion phase, his intentions show how he is refusing to limit himself to being a retired NBA Player. He now wants to step into the business side of basketball as well and he has big plans for the future too! Well, while that is underway, it seems that there is some good news for Anthony. It’s something every player dreams of!
What’s the big deal here? News just came in that Carmelo Anthony has just received one of the highest honors in basketball. As NBA insider Shams Charania reported, “First ballot: Carmelo Anthony has been notified that he’s been elected into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2025, sources tell ESPN.” Well, with this, he has now placed himself among the greatest NBA players. Over his 19-year career, Anthony was a 10-time NBA All-Star and a six-time All-NBA selection. He also secured three Olympic gold medals, making him the most decorated American men’s Olympic basketball player.

For Anthony, this induction is more than just an award: it’s the ultimate validation of his basketball journey. From his college championship at Syracuse to his legendary NBA career, it’s been a long journey. He finished as the 10th all-time leading scorer in NBA history. It’s a feat so hard that it doesn’t need any explanation! Now, with a Hall of Fame induction and a potential franchise purchase in his future, Carmelo Anthony is redefining success beyond the court.
Carmelo Anthony’s real reason for pushing Durant to the Wizards
The Melo news never stops! If the Hall of Famer wasn’t enough, there’s more that the legend has spoken about. Carmelo wants Kevin Durant to be traded back to the Wizards. The NBA legend recently took the time to share his thoughts on Durant’s struggle this season and the chaos surrounding his trade rumors. On his 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, Anthony had a bold take: “Go to the Wizards. Bring the energy back to D.C., you home.” He made it sound like a heartfelt plea for Durant to finish his career in Washington. But was it just nostalgia talking?
Is Carmelo Anthony hoping for Kevin Durant to come home, or is there more to the story?

Let’s be real: Durant’s time in Phoenix hasn’t been smooth. The Suns were supposed to dominate with him, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. Instead, injuries and chemistry issues have kept them barely in the playoff race. Trade rumors are heating up, with Miami being a potential landing spot. But Anthony has a different plan.

Interestingly, in another episode of the podcast he revealed his hidden motive behind his advice! When host Kazeem Famuyide pressed him on his Wizards take, Anthony finally admitted, “That’s cuz I’m trying to be the owner.” Monica McNutt laughed, saying, “If you get him back to the Wizards and in the community, you’re winning.”
