From sneaking into movie theaters to gracing the sets of some, the movie buff in Charles Barkley has come a long way. Space Jam, Hot Shots, and even a cameo in Modern Family, Chuck has had his time behind the silver screen. But if he were to pick a set to own a piece from, he would go back to his younger days, choosing a franchise that also happened to have upset his colleague.

In a recent interview on the Talking Pictures Official Podcast, Barkley shared how, as a rookie, he would sneak into theaters to watch movies. So, when the host asked a hypothetical question to the enthusiast in him, about what prop he would steal from a movie warehouse if he were a fictional criminal, he didn’t hesitate.

“I think you take the saber from Star Wars. I think you take the saber or James Earl Jones’ outfit as Darth Vader,” Barkley said on the podcast. A lightsaber is a fictional power weapon shown in the movie. To avoid making the wrong decision, he also mentioned other options.

Chuck had gotten somewhere close to that.

Back in 2018, the 76ers icon was a part of a ‘Star Wars’ skit that got cut from the SNL. With a hosting gig there, Chuck, alongside Mikey Day and Kate McKinnon, played a part of the “Mos Eisley Five,” the $10.3 billion franchise’s standalone film. The sketch, however, failed to air, but it did make its way to YouTube. You can see Barkley all costumed-up as J. J. Abrams stands to announce the film.

Seems like that’s as far as he got in his gushing moment for the Star Wars franchise. Shaquille O’Neal shared the sentiment too, until one thing got him mad.

Shaq caught up on the Star War trilogy in his younger days too. But during his appearance on Wynn Las Vegas’ podcast, he had a dissatisfaction to voice against creator George Lucas for the order of the movies released. George Lucas made me so mad,” Shaquille O’Neal said.

The prequel drop following the original trilogy did not have the Lakers icon on board. However, he is using that to take inspiration for his music project ahead.

Growing up, I watched Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and the other one. Then he would come back 20 years later and say, ‘No, that’s not 1, 2, 3. This is 3, 4, 5. Watch 1, 2, 3. Since you want to do that, I’m gonna hit them with the old markers. ‘These are 100 songs, but this is supposed to be the first album, the second album, the third,” O’Neal detailed.

Shaq admittedly had 87 songs as of now, with artists like Big Pun, Peter Gunz, Lord Tariq, Fu-Schnickens, and more. With a resume like that, Shaq calls it probably the “best discography ever” for a non-rapper. Given how serious he sounds, we might as well expect Shaq to pull the move. Two different approaches for the two colleagues who grew up loving the franchise.
