“Golf is fun,” said Charles Barkley once. But the sport hasn’t always been on his side. Now with the broadcast of TNT Sport’s most entertaining golf event ‘The Match’ featuring Charley Barkley, Nate Bargatze, Wayne Gretzky, Ken Griffey Jr., Blake Griffin, Bill Murray, Michael Phelps, Mark Wahlberg, it seems like Barkley has already been a victim of a viral moment that has nothing to do with his infamous choppy downswing.
In a clip shared by Bleacher Report on Instagram, Barkley was captured driving a golf buggy alongside baseball veteran Ken Griffey Jr.visibly drenched in sweat in his pink golf polo t-shirt. Interestingly, as soon as the buggy stopped, Griffey Jr. rushed and walked away from the vehicle. Enter former NBA star Blake Griffin, who wasted no time delivering a perfectly timed roast.
“Ken just got out and took a deep breath of fresh air. It smells like Italian B.M.T’s from Subway. I can’t imagine what the cart smells like right now,” said Griffin in the video. Soon after, both Barkley and Griffey were seen ditching the buggy to walk instead.

So now the former LA Clippers player didn’t stop there. He even impersonated Barkley giving a Subway order, throwing another subtle jab at him. “I heard him earlier, he’s like, yeah you know I do the Italian. You know I love onions, I love onions, so heavy on onions,” said Griffin in his roast.

Now jokes apart, Barkley’s relationship with The Match has been a fascinating one. This is Barkley’s ninth appearance in the event, being a part of it as a broadcaster most of the time. But that doesn’t mean the former NBA MVP has never shown his skills. During the third installment of the event, Barkley, along with pro golfer Phil Mickelson, had won the event, against the duo of Peyton Manning and Stephen Curry.
We can expect the 61-year-old to show elite skills once again, given he has proven his abilities by ranking 58th at the American Century in July. “It’s the best I’ve ever probably played anywhere. I played really well. I was really confident,” said Barkley (as per Golf.com).

Moments like Barkley’s recent “sweaty mishap” are part of why The Match continues to captivate audiences. The event thrives on the mix of high-level sportsmanship, star power, and relatable, unscripted humor. However, this wasn’t the only thing that Barkley fell victim to.
Charles Barkley gets humbled by Ken Griffey Jr.
Sweat wasn’t the only thing keeping Charles Barkley uncomfortable during the latest edition of The Match. The NBA legend, known as much for his infamous golf struggles as his Hall of Fame basketball career, found himself humbled in a battle strength against his golf buggy partner.

In a story posted by Bleacher Report on Instagram, it can be seen that the stars present were presented with a task: ‘A grip test’. Upon hearing about the task, the former power forward only said one thing, “Oh, this is just something stupid.” But when he learned that the MLB veteran had a reading more than him, Barkley just had the right logic in his mind. “He got stronger hands. He’s a baseball player,” said Barkley.
Moreover, even after losing in the grip test, Barkley was also a target of Griffey Jr.’s sweat roast. “(What’s it been like sitting next to Charles Barkley?) Like an eight-month-old puppy rottweiler hanging out the window trying to get air,” said Griffey Jr. In the end, whether sweating it out in the van or taking an “L” in stride, Barkley’s way of taking humor proved why he remains the heart and soul of The Match.
