A feud about two non-All-Stars on TNT. That might very well be a first. Despite the conversation revolving around the usual suspects most of the time, a prime-time New York Knicks matchup with the Orlando Magic on MLK day led the way for a heated argument between Charles Barkley and Candace Parker. And the 3x WNBA champion got the upper hand on the Chuckster, making sure to revel in the glory.
The two basketball greats were given the choice to guess how many games ended with both teams under 100 points out of the 595 played in the league this season so far. While the Phoenix Suns legend would go for a fair 50, Parker was far more conservative with 6. The correct answer? 8.
Immediately, she was ready to gloat, saying, “Tennessee just kicked you. Auburn education right there.” However, with two young stars in conversation, it conveys the bigger picture of the changing of the guard in the NBA. This is what led to the above-mentioned trivia. With the Magic dominating for major portions of the game, Chuck pointed the finger at Jalen Brunson.

“I think that’s a little deceptive, though. Because they’re not…Without Brunson, you can’t lead. That guy’s a hell of a player, great signing by the Knicks. So, Brunson, they need Brunson,” the Chuckster said. Out for the game with an injury, the Knicks would miss their best player on the night. As a result, Orlando was able to dominate. But Candance was quick to point out the double standard.
“That’s also with Orlando without Franz Wagner. So, Orlando’s missing a key piece as well.” But Charles was quick to dismiss her opinion. “Well, he’s not as good as Brunson, stop it…Brunson is their best player.” But Parker just wanted Barkley to keep that same energy. “I’m just saying give credit where credit is due. Wagner was out as well.” However, the Philadelphia 76ers legend had had enough.

“Okay Candace, we know your brother’s a general manager.” And then Parker got to show off her game knowledge with the trivia. Despite the missing pieces, Charles has been high on the Knicks throughout the year.

Before the segment disintegrated into college insults, Barkley did have some stout analysis for the team. To him, the team might be just one piece away from being among the championship favorites. “But I still think need to make a – I love the OG trade.”
However, one more piece can get them over the top. “But, I think if you want to get in the conversation with the Celtics, the 76ers, you really need to make a trade in my opinion.” Look away, Becky Hammond, because if the Round Mound of Rebound (Oops, sorry) is correct, New York is here to stay.
