It’s an NBA Finals miracle! Charles Barkley gave in to Galveston’s charm and attraction. Skippy from the Broadcast Boys put him in a tough spot for it, but it was worth it. This interaction seems to have gone down after the Dallas Mavericks won the Western Conference Finals. Since TNT isn’t on the Finals coverage, he could weigh his vacation options instead of going back to Arizona.
He asked Barkley, “Would you rather live in a mansion in Galveston, Texas or a small studio apartment in New York City?” Barkley hissed and hummed and said, “That’s a really tricky question.” Because New York also ranks in Chuckster’s Top 10 places he doesn’t like after San Antonio, San Francisco, and Galveston. Between both options, he’s willing to compromise. “New York is cluttered, cold. A mansion in Galveston. I could do without the beach. Warm weather and a mansion and Imma go with Galveston.”
Barkley is in Atlanta right now following the Western Conference Finals and was at Steve Harvey’s charity golf event. He’s a permanent resident of Arizona since he played for the Phoenix Suns and owns a 10,000 sq. ft, mansion there. Only Scottsdale and its golf weather earns his glowing review.

His daughter Christiana is based in New York with her husband and children. While Chuck loves to visit his grandkids, he once claimed he’s eager to get back to Arizona and play golf.

Galveston scarred him when he played with the Houston Rockets. They had training there and Chuck explored the city. While he adores the people, the beach was the dealbreaker.
Charles Barkley’s conditional love for Galveston
Chuck amped up the Galveston shade throughout the playoffs, telling the losing teams to try out Galveston’s “dirty a** waters” instead of Cancun. Beyonce’s mom, Tina Knowles, a Galveston native, nearly beefed with him. The city also fought back with hilarious billboards poking fun at Sir Charles. Locals also pulled out receipts that Barkley had a warm reception there.

It actually made Chuck defensive on Inside the NBA. “Everybody was great to me in Galveston but your beach was dirty as hell.” He even claimed he’d need steel-toed boots to protect his pedicure from the Galveston beach.
So it appears he’d live in a mansion in Galveston if it was far from the water. His daughter and grandkids can’t keep him long enough in New York. So don’t count on Barkley sticking to his word about Galveston.
