Sir Charles misses nothing! If Chuck is visiting the town, he will have a long list of pros as well as cons highlighted about the place as a diligent tourist. He had a lot to say about San Antonio’s River Walk. And he still has a problem with Galveston Beach. For those who know, he wasn’t pleased with the beach for one reason. And even after all these months, and a response from the city, his opinion remains unchanged.
When a fan asked if Galveston was a good place for vacation, Barkley went on to simply detail his experience. He went to Galveston for the training camp when he was playing for the Houston Rockets. And the one thing that he didn’t like about the beach there was that it was dirty.
“I called a couple of players, they are like, ‘well training camp is at to beach’ and I’m like, ‘well, it can’t be that bad’ and we go down to Galveston and I’m looking at the water, I’m like, ‘what the f**k’. Like what good is a beach when you can’t go on the beach. I mean it was crazy man. I was like there’s no sense in having a beach if you can’t go in the water but everybody was really nice there but man that dirty water coming up on the beach I’m like holy s**t,” Chuck said on the first episode of They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce.

During a segment on TNT show, he once even claimed to wear steel-toe boots to protect his manicured feet from getting dirty on the beach. Yes, he loves and ensures he takes his mani-pedi sessions weekly. He had a similar thought about San Antonio’s River Walk, which he called a “dirty creek.”
However, the locals might take peace in knowing that it’s not all of Galveston that he disliked. Chuck loved the local hangouts, bike rides, and was pleased with how the people were so nice to him. So, it’s just the beach that was the problem for Chuck. And since the Philadelphia 76ers legend brought the issue to light, was something done about it?

Galveston city council responds to Charles Barkley’s comment
Charles Barkley had mentioned it on television, and it was upon the Galveston City Council to look into the matter. What did Barkley say about it? Speaking of the Pelicans’ underwhelming performance, Chuck said, “We’re not giving them no plane ticket to the beach. Send they a** to Galveston, Texas, right where that dirty water washed up on the beach. They can’t even get in no water.”
The comment was laughed off by the cast, but it wasn’t taken lightly by the authorities. There are nearly 50,000 residents living in Galveston. They claim to maintain cleanliness around the 32 miles of beachfront and offer ‘clean, safe and fun environment for beachgoers.’ The city was quick to defend itself, dismissing Chuck’s claims.

“Locals and visitors love having such an accessible, picturesque beachfront right at the end of Interstate 45… Galveston is much more than a beach town. There are a multitude of attractions and amenities to enjoy across the island, from theme parks to world-class museums to fine dining, there’s no shortage of fun. Galveston is a family-friendly and cost-friendly destination, and we think the Pelicans would find well-deserved R&R here in the offseason,” the park board claimed. Well, Chuck remains adamant about his view.
