Criticism was so severe that it required external intervention. Yep, we are speaking of Dwyane Wade’s statue that was unveiled earlier in October outside Kaseya Center. The figure was a much-awaited honor for The Flash’s legacy with the Miami Heat, yes. But when the stars from the NBA community itself comment things like “You got the Dwayne Wade jersey on with Thanos chin,” you know things are bad. It seems, however, that a fan had the solution for the problem which Zaire Wade himself low-key approved.
An IG story shared by Better Late Than Never clothing line featured Kaseya Center in the background along with the D-Wade statue. “Tweaks have been made @itszwade,” read the caption to the story. The tweak, however, in reference is just a hilarious addition of the Chill Guy meme in front of the statue.
For those unaware, the Chill Guy meme is an illustration of an anthropomorphic dog who dons a grey sweater, rolled-up blue jeans, and red sneakers. The character is believed to radiate an effortless chill vibe. The only difference in the IG story was that the dog was wearing the apparel by Better Late Than Never. Zaire Wade, however, approved the digital changes. His second IG account @itszwade, reshared the story writing, “more like it @dwyanewade.”

It’s worth mentioning that Zaire was among the first ones to tease the statue’s pose when everyone else was just speculating. “I may or may not know..” he had commented on an IG post featuring a clip from Gil’s Arena. The clip had Arenas pushing for Dwyane Wade’s “this is my house” pose for the statue. While his desire came true, the expectations did not. But that was not the case with The Flash himself.
“I get that people have their opinions,” he said when asked about the backlash. “If the statue gets people talking, taking photos, and sharing it around, I’m all for it!” And you’ve got to love his humor—he even joked, “If you wanted it to look exactly like me, I could just stand outside the arena!” But the amount of hate that came in could change anyone’s perception.

It’s still, however, to be seen what he thinks of the hilarious changes that Better Late Than Never made. When it comes to Heat legends, who do you think deserves to join Dwyane Wade in statue form?
The next star to receive a statue from the Miami Heat
For Wade, the answer is clear–Udonis Haslem. In a heartfelt interview with REVOLVE, Wade didn’t hesitate, saying, “His work that he’s done on the basketball court is hand in hand with what I’ve done. And I feel like what he’s done off the court has been second to none.”

Haslem’s story is one every Heat fan knows by heart. Imagine going undrafted in 2002 and still becoming a cornerstone of your hometown team. That’s UD for you. Over 20 seasons, he gave everything to Miami, not just as a player but as a symbol of resilience.
Haslem’s fingerprints are all over the Heat’s three championship wins in 2006, 2012, and 2013. No wonder that even Miami Heat President Pat Riley teased a UD statue on the day of Wade’s statue unveiling. “… One day we will have that. Put up your [Haslem’s] statue up here…” Riley said. Maybe they can take some input from Better Late Than Never if Heat is looking for a touch of humor.
