Everyone’s moved past the NBA Finals and in Olympics mode right now. But Gilbert Arenas won’t stop pointing out where the reigning champs went wrong. He’s not the only one who was underwhelmed by the NBA Finals for a lack of thrill. He’s, however, still holding the Boston Celtics responsible for it. An extension of his criticism of the Celtics’ recent playing style, he went off during his appearance on Vlad TV. And given how they’re going, he has very little hope for a Celtics dynasty.
Firstly, he agreed with one of DJ Vlad’s viewers. “Facts. Trash finals, trash.” His problem with the Celtics was shooting too many threes. The team accumulated a total of 70 3-pointers out of 207 attempts in the finals as it comes as the easiest way to score. Make that make sense. Somehow Agent Zero did.
Between the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics, he understands why the Mavs would try to make three-pointers every time. Luka Doncic did what he does as usual, but mostly because he carries the offensive burden. The Celtics though… “But Boston I know… what you did all season was shoot threes but your team is so big, right, you’re so athletic, and to sit there and shoot 15-16 threes in a row, when you can just drive to the basket and no one can stop you.”

According to him, Jaylen Brown was capable of going past Luka and Kyrie’s backcourt. But they hardly took advantage of that to make this a 4-0 series. The Mavs had one redemptive game from a sweep where Celtics were criticized for not being serious enough.
Arenas stated the Celtics opt for threes over the interior defense and blames the lackluster finals on ‘The Steph Curry Effect’ and the Golden State Warriors. And he thinks the Celtics are not playing to their strengths to imitate the Dubs.
No Chill Gil doesn’t see a Celtics dynasty
Shortly after the Boston Celtics won their first championship since 2008, Arenas said on Gil’s Arena he doesn’t think they can make consecutive championships. Back then too, he blamed their tendency on threes. As he told on Vlad TV, that the NBA is moving to a tendency where, “everyone’s shooting threes more often.”
As per his observations in the past, there were more misses from the 3-point line which made a successful three very exciting. Then Steph Curry made it look easy and put the Warriors’ score in the triple digits. Now more teams are leaning towards sharpening their skills from the arc.

After looking at the Celtics numbers in the past season, Arenas stated that they’re shooting percentage is worse from the 3-point line. He’s dismayed a stacked roster like Boston’s has not capitalized on it and play a style meant for them. Do you agree the Celtics are underplaying themselves?
