No one is doing summer like the Anthonys. 17-year-old Kiyan Anthony is making the most of what’s left of his high school life, deliberating the college offers on the table, and making a name for himself. While doing so, he headed to New York City to team up with Tyran Stokes on Cam Wilder’s AAU team – the Rod Wave Elite. As they kicked off the NYC AAU Tournament and “went ballistic,” as Wilder put it, La La Anthony was right by him, cheering and looking fabulous while at it!
The actress, entrepreneur, and philanthropist is embodying summer vibes, being a cool mom, and supporting her son. While Carmelo Anthony’s son was basking in his self-made fame, setting the Holy Cross High School gym ablaze with his skills, La La Anthony was taking a break from her shows to be the hype mom. “A vibe like NY in the summer,” she wrote to summarize her carousel on Instagram.
Rocking pastel co-ords, loose waves, and some serious abs, La La joined Kiyan through his basketball schedules and events with One Way, the New York-based clothing brand. The post she shared included pictures of herself and videos with her son, all presumably from Kiyan’s 105-92 victory against the CM3 MHC in Game 1 of the tournament. Needless to say, she was brimming with pride, even when she was tucked under her son’s arm as he escorted her outside the stadium amidst all the cacophony.

Remember La La Anthony’s birthday post for Kiyan’s Sweet 16? Apart from calling he now-17-year-old Kiyan her everything, she’d written, “I always say I was blessed with a best friend and a son all in one.” From their June 1 and June 2 outing in NYC – and the support she showed her son, the way he protected her, and how they both seemed to genuinely enjoy each other’s company – it definitely looked like their friendship was just as strong as their mother-son bond.
Speaking of their mother-son bond, when it comes to cheering Kiyan, she’s almost always the first to show up. Last time around, though, she had Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James for company, too! The former Los Angeles Lakers teammates headed to Indiana to watch their sons compete in their Nike Elite Youth Basketball League fixture.
Bryce James’ team, Strive For Greatness, went up against Kiyan Anthony’s Team Melo. Although SFG narrowly won the encounter 71-65, it was a memorable performance by Carmelo Anthony’s son, who dropped 28 points (compared to Bryce’s 8). Even though La La wasn’t in Indiana, as soon as the game was over, she posted a story on Instagram featuring her son, Carmelo Anthony, and LeBron James. “Melo and Bron watched Kiyan drop 28,” she wrote. This performance only added to the 17-year-old’s success in the league.

In the 10 games he’s played in the Nike EYBL so far, he’s averaged 20.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game, ensuring his spot in the Top 10 players with the highest points per game in the league. Following the fixture, the NIL athlete soon returned to New York to play for Cam Wilder’s AAU team, where he shone once again, this time with his mother in attendance.
When La La isn’t doing a street-style photo shoot, she’s with her son. Kiyan signed autographs on the Holy Cross High School basketball court and escorted his mother through a street crowded with his fans like her bodyguard. The glam mom and son embody New York so fine that Khloé Kardashian had to jump in on the comments to shower them with emoji love. And this might just be the tip of the iceberg of a very busy summer for La La’s son.
All eyes are on Kiyan as he may follow in Carmelo Anthony’s footsteps
The 17-year-old transferred from Christ the King High School in Queens, NY, to Long Island Lutheran High School in Glen Head, NY, in 2023 and has been thriving. He’s dominating the high school circuit, AAU, and Nike EYBL while making NIL deals. He’s a No. 39 prospect in the Class of 2025, according to 247Sports, and is drawing numerous D1 offers.

Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Memphis, Michigan, Seton Hall, Syracuse, and Tennessee, among others, have shown their interest in Melo’s kid. Yet he’s shown the most interest so far with a visit to Syracuse University, his dad’s alma mater, where he won an NCAA championship in 2003. Exes Carmelo Anthony and La La have been a united front for Kiyan during college visits and even on his One Way ventures. The 17-year-old spoke to On3, revealing he’d be visiting Auburn, Indiana, and Ohio State in the coming weeks.
From the looks of it, things are set to get better for Kiyan Anthony. All that remains to be seen is which college gets an NBA scion.
