“When it came to Melo, scoring was easy.” Gilbert Arenas has maintained his obsession with scorers. After previously selecting Devin Booker and Trae Young over Stephen Curry, his latest pick might be that which people will appreciate. In another discussion, which was ten months ago, Arenas picked Carmelo Anthony over a former Warriors player. And this time, he did not change his decision.
Agent Zero explained his position on Gil’s Arenas show when asked about Carmelo Anthony’s rank among scorers. He stated that the greatest players make the game look easy. Although it may seem easy, that wasn’t the case because every player on the team had the responsibility of guarding Melo, irrespective of their position.
He even compared the situation to a player who had a significant influence on Carmelo Anthony during his early days. Arenas said, “You’re talking about guys like Allen Iverson, everybody tried to guard him.” Even another former teammate of Melo vouched for his ability.

Kenyon Martin called him “one of the best scorers that this game so far has seen.” Both shared the locker room during the Nuggets days and he claimed that Melo wouldn’t take the practice sessions lightly. “He just perfected that fu**ing jab step, and you got to respect it or he going by you, ” Martin added.

Even though Carmelo Anthony did not win any NBA championships, he still was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. Plus, after 19 seasons, his average of 22.5 points per game truly speaks about his scoring ability. Martin even compared the scoring of Melo and Kevin Durant. He said, “Kevin Durant’s not doing anything different. Melo not doing anything different. These guys are not doing anything different, they just perfecting what they do in their endless amounts of time doing that.”
While Martin has voiced a similarity existing between Anthony and Durant, the 42-year-old holds a contrasting opinion.
Why did Arenas put Carmelo Anthony over KD?
On his podcast in October, Arenas explained why Anthony was above KD for scoring. He stated that many fans only consider 3 levels of shooting to determine anybody’s prowess. But, as per Agent Zero, there are more than 3 levels. He said, “You would go Melo because he had 4-level, 5-level scoring… there’s posting up and iso player.”
“Melo posted up and iso player. When it comes to who is the most complete scorer? I’m gonna say Melo.” Even though Arenas considered Carmelo Anthony to be better, the stats say otherwise. Durant has played fewer minutes and scored more points overall. 38,972 minutes and 28,924 points to 43,513 minutes and 28,289 points for Melo.

The consistency of basketball opinion from former players is debatable, but his explanation of what made Carmelo Anthony great leaves no room for debate. However, his previous call of Booker and Young being better scorer than Curry won’t die down soon. Although Arenas’ point is understandable, you be the judge of who the better scorer is between Steph, Booker, and Young.
