The Christmas games remain the most exciting day in the NBA calendar year. Aside from the playoffs, they offer a marquee day for big-time matchups. As a result, the extra gravitas brings with it the attention of all superstars, past and present. That is how Carmelo Anthony found himself in the middle of proceedings at Madison Square Garden. While the games bring excitement, the NBA was also ready to spread the Christmas cheer.

That is where the New York Knicks legend came into the picture. For the Peña family, the event brought a special Christmas miracle. Struggling financially, the NBA was ready to step in with a hearty check to support their healthcare.

Worth $30,000, the sum was no small amount. The announcers did a brilliant job hyping it up, bringing the spot to everyone’s notice. “The New York Knicks are honored to present the Peña family with $30,000 to support hospital builds and bring extra joy to their season. And here to present the cheque – Please welcome Knicks alumni Carmelo Anthony.” 

The crowd, undoubtedly huge Melo fans let out a raucous roar seeing their hero make his return to The Garden. Perhaps, with a legend in attendance, the team can rattle off a Christmas miracle of their own and defeat the near table-topping Milwaukee Bucks.

Carmelo Anthony is not the only one providing Christmas miracles

The Knicks were coming into the game with a point to prove. Despite solid seasons in the last 3 years, they remain a laughing stock due to excess expectations. Plus, with the comments from Becky Hammon taking center stage, the spotlight was even greater.

But, against a 2x MVP and a Championship core, it was their grit and hustle that would prove to be the difference maker. Behind the same criticized Jalen Brunson and a red-hot duo of RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley, New York was able to overcome the Bucks.

After a back-and-forth first quarter, the game was never really close. Even though Giannis Antetokounmpo and his new superstar teammate made a try for the lead, the Knicks were able to persevere. With Melo in the house, they weren’t looking to disappoint.

But, beating a team with the likes of Giannis and Damian Lillard is a tall order. For the 16-12 Knicks, it was almost close to a miracle. Perhaps, they were ready to follow the example Carmelo set at half-time.
