LeBron's love for Bronny: Is this the ultimate example of father-son bond in sports?

Recently, the NBA Official social media handle posted promotional material regarding LeBron James and his son Bronny James together for the NBA media day. The 19-year-old and eldest son to the megastar joined his father’s team, the Lakers, in the 2024 NBA draft. This was a huge moment for the four-time NBA championship, and he posted about it on his official Instagram page.

“PURE JOY 🙌🏾🙌🏾🤴🏾,” James captioned the images of him and his son at the media event. It was clear that James was at a loss for words with this post. His son will join his team for the first time, which is a proud moment for any father. This will also mark the first time in the NBA that a father-son duo is on the same team.

NBA fans were quick to notice that Carmelo Anthony had also commented on the post. “Nothing like it 🫡,” the ten-time NBA All-Star wrote. Both Anthony and James are proud fathers of sons following in their footsteps. Among the others who commented on the post were Gilbert Arenas, who wrote, “🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️.” Puka Nakua commented, “Legendary.”

The duo were the main focus of the Los Angeles Lakers media day. This preseason event will be kicking off the 2024-25 season. A few years ago, James had mentioned that it was a dream to play alongside his son before the curtains closed on his career. However, many people don’t share Anthony’s sentiments on the matter.

Other NBA Legends join Carmelo Anthony in Bronny’s success amid backlash

While James’s fans and his co-players are celebrating the historic moment, a few were irked by the draft. Former NBA star Steven Hunter criticized Bronny and his father.

“Typically late second round picks don’t get 4 year guaranteed roster spot deals either. This wasn’t earned, I’m sorry… And it’s an egregious abuse of power from LBJ & Rich Paul. It’s a slap in the face to all of the kids out there who work their a**es off to get to the league.” Hunter wrote. While many deemed this too harsh of a statement for the 19-year-old star, others seemed to share the same opinion.

However, Former Miami Heat guard Mario Chalmers dismissed the accusation of nepotism and praised James and his son. He said, “I salute Bron and his son,” celebrating the new milestone in NBA history for a father-son duo.
