Is Kiyan Anthony the next big thing in basketball, or just riding on his father's coattails?

At the end of July, ESPN’s recruiting database revealed Kiyan Anthony to be #1 in the New York class of 2025. His EYBL performance also turned a lot of heads around in appreciation. Last month, he narrowed his college list down to six, including his father’s alma mater. Recently, he hinted at his destination, but before it became official for next year, Carmelo Anthony had one goal in mind for his son.

Speaking on his weekly podcast, the New York Knicks legend said, “I would like to see him win.” The 10x All-Star continued, “I would like to see him like experience like winning the high school championship.” Carmelo Anthony also laid down the challenges that his son might face this upcoming year.

With the recruitment program for 2025 approaching, he explained that there could be many distractions. He also hinted that complacency might set in, but emphasized that this is the time to stay extremely focused and add a championship to his resume. Until the start of this year, Kiyan was averaging nearly 10.3 points, 2.4 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game for Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.), the No. 3-ranked team in the National Top 10.
