Melo’s offensive repertoire, marked by a lethal mid-range game and clutch performances, cemented his status as one of the game’s best scorers. For his son, who is also thriving in the basketball scene, the NBA legend was in awe of his performance in his season debut for the Long Island Lutheran.

The 10x All-Star is known for his scoring prowess. He seamlessly blended finesse and power on the hardwood. Fascinatingly, the legend taught his skills to his son, Kiyan, who exhibits similar prowess on the basketball court. The 16-year-old displayed an exceptional performance as he dropped 22 points in his season debut game.

Impressed by his son’s game, the former New York Knicks star had just one word “Proud”. He shared numerous snaps from the game on his Instagram account and captioned it the same.

Following his father’s footsteps, the young athlete might also join Melo’s Alma Mater, Syracuse. Kiyan is a four-star prospect, currently holding the 36th spot in the 2025 class rankings. Irrespective of the college he selects, Kiyan expressed his commitment to making his parents proud.

Along with that, the young athlete is also making waves in the business world as he recently inked a major NIL deal. He is even showcasing skills that could surpass his father. He also triumphed over his father in their shared arena.

Even at the age of 39, the ex-Los Angeles Lakers player can get buckets on the court. To defeat the legend is indeed a feat for the aspiring basketball player.

As seen in a clip shared by Melo’s ex-wife a few weeks ago, Kiyan was seen seamlessly navigating through the hurdles and defeating the basketball legend. The 16-year-old went for a simple layup and nailed a step-back 3-pointer.
