“He’s (Stephen Curry) still a great player. Not a Hall of Famer yet, though.” The consensus GOAT of the NBA, Michael Jordan, left no bar when describing the 3-point shooting standout with NBC’s Craig Melvin. While the 6x champion might have been walking on the water during his Chicago Bulls era, seems like other NBA stars are no longer lightyears away.
Recently, LeBron James surpassed Michael Jordan for the most career 30-point games in NBA history. It was his 563rd career game with 30 or more points. MJ set the record with 562 such games across 1,072 career games over 15 seasons. But there is another modern-day scoring machine that is closing on MJ.
Stephen Curry, who changed the landscape of basketball with his 3-point shooting, moved a place above in all-time scoring charts. Let’s look at how close Chef Curry truly is to the Bulls legend’s all-time scoring record. After all, he recently surpassed Allen Iverson and moved closer to MJ.

Is there a realistic chance that Stephen Curry might surpass Michael Jordan?
Against the Toronto Raptors on Monday night, the Warriors star, with his usual shot from beyond the arc, achieved the 24,371st point of his entire career. Thus, he moved up to #28 on the all-time scoring list, above Allen Iverson’s career 24,368 points and just 130 points away from Ray Allen. However, Stephen Curry is still 7,921 points away from Michael Jordan.
According to the NBA official site, the 6x NBA Champion has amassed over 32,292 points in a total of 1,072 games. Interestingly, Stephen Curry has played 987 games for his 24,371 points, and the difference between the two is only 85 games.
With the Baby-Faced Assassin averaging 24.7 points per game, in 85 games, he could add 2,099.5 points. Let’s round it off to 2100. But that would still leave him way short of the target.

After the hypothetical calculation, Stephen Curry would end up with 26,471 points after playing the same amount of games. That would mean, Michael Jordan would still hold the advantage of 5,821 points. With that in mind, the Warriors star, apart from the previous 85 games, would require 235 more games to break the MJ record. That means a total of 320 extra games to overtake the Bulls legend.
Considering the point guard is 36 years old, that gives him not a lot of time to reach that overall #5 spot. Even though it is still time for that, Curry should be receiving flowers for his achievements. That’s what Allen Iverson did.
Chef Curry dislodged AI of the #28th position, “Congrats to my lil bro @StephenCurry30! It’s been amazing to see you rewrite the game. Respect to the greatest shooter to ever do it! Well Deserved!#MyFavoritePlayer.”
While MJ’s all-time scoring record might be a far fetched idea, the Golden Boy did leave His Airness in the dust in another aspect.
Curry beat MJ’s record earlier this year
To kick off the new year, against the Philadelphia 76ers, Stephen Curry passed Michael Jordan in an unusual record. With his 30 points, he became the guard with the most number of 30-point games after turning 35. He also helped the team secure a 139-105 blowout win, and it was his 40th 30-point game, one more than Jordan, to achieve this feat. But let’s remind you of the words from Michael Jordan about Curry’s HOF contention.
“I hope not. He’s still a great player. Not a Hall of Famer yet, though, He’s not.” In an interview in 2019, with NBC’s Craig Melvin. At the time the Warriors star had 3 titles but not enough as per the Bulls legend. Naturally, Curry replied and had a lot to say at the time.
“I know I have more to prove to myself. When you hear a guy like that, who’s the greatest of all time, it’s kind of funny. Since we’ve been on this stage, we’ve heard a lot of retired guys chiming in on this generation of basketball players and evaluating talent and saying their generation was better and all that.”

In 2025, one can surely say is Stephen Curry is Hall of Fame worthy. But adding a 5th championship and being another step closer to Michael Jordan would be sweeter. However, the current season woes and a 19-20 don’t scream a title-winning team.

If the Bay Area franchise is unable to provide the support, that would eventually pressure on Chef Curry. They occupy the 12th seed on the points chart and have dropped below .500 for the first time this season.
Curry himself had gotten critical of the roster, going so far as to state “Like the kids say, we’re very mid right now.” So, this could play in his mind to retire even before than expected. But that speculation should be done when the surrounding noise is actually louder. Right now, he is #28 on the all-time scoring chart and #1 as the three-point leader.
