Despite the constant media microscope, Zaire Wade, the eldest son of NBA legend Dwyane Wade, is forging his own path in basketball. Currently playing for the Cape Town Tigers in the Basketball Africa League (BAL), Zaire has found inspiration and comfort in a heartfelt Instagram post by his coach, Cory Smith.

Smith, who is also the COO of JusHoop has trained with esteemed players like Rajon Rondo, and Liz Cambage.

This message struck a chord with Zaire. He firmly believes that with perseverance and dedication, he could rise above the negativity. Resharing the post on his own social media, Zaire was grateful for the unwavering belief in his potential.

His father admitted that even though he didn’t fully grasp the challenges Zaire encounters, he is always rooting for his son to come out on top.

During an appearance on Club Shay Shay with host Shannon Sharpe, D-Wade discussed the pressures faced by his son.

“I never had that kinda pressure, I had an older brother who was good, but he wasn’t Hall of Famer, he wasn’t at the level of the sharks. So, I have no idea what Zaire is experiencing from that standpoint.”

The Miami Heat legend emphasized the importance of recognizing Zaire’s individual journey. He insists that it is unjust to evaluate him solely based on comparisons to his own career or that of other players. 

Wade expressed sympathy for Zaire’s difficulties. He acknowledges that unwarranted hate and comparisons are an unfortunate part of striving for greatness.

 “I sympathize with this young man who gets hate for nothing, no one knows him, he’s on his own journey, and it’s been… whether it’s me, whether it’s Bronny, whether it’s this player or that player, he’s getting compared to them, and that’s life, at the same time, you’re gonna be compared to a lot of different people if you wanna do something great.”
