Did Bryce Young just pull an Allen Iverson on the NFL field? Is he the next big thing?

Michael Jordan was known for his dominance on the court, and to this date, the competitive spirit of the legend remains unmatched. However, even the greatest face adversity. One such instance was an iconic move by Allen Iverson in a game against the Bulls Legend in 1997. However, the same move has been recreated not on the hardwood of Wells Fargo Center, but on the turf of Caesars Superdome.

In Sunday’s game between the New Orleans Saints and the Carolina Panthers, it looked like another phenom had pulled off a move that seemed to be plucked straight from Iverson’s playbook. The 2021 Heisman Trophy winner and the first overall pick for the Carolina Panthers, Bryce Young, showed an amazing display of body control to make an attempt to score in the third quarter of the game which one user of X termed as “bro hit the Allen Iverson left-to-right crossover for a tuddy.

This iconic move that was first played against Jordan by Iverson is known as a “crossover,” which is a dribbling technique used to create space between a player and their defender. In 1997, in a game against the Philadelphia 76ers and the Chicago Bulls, AI infamously crossed Jordan to score a point. Although the Bulls defeated the Sixers 108-104, it seemed like Jordan was impressed by the Iverson’s playing style. “Very quick…I figured that he wanted to come to his right hand, but he keeps the ball real low and he’s small and he’s certainly closer to the ground than I am. His quickness is unbelievable,” said the Bulls legend in the postgame presser.

However, even though Iverson had turned heads with his iconic move, Jordan wasn’t the type of player who would forget such a gameplay.

In a later interview, Allen Iverson revealed that when he went to watch a Charlotte game, he met Jordan and expressed his feelings for the Lakers legend. But the NBA legend was quick with his words. “You don’t love me, you lil b****. You wouldn’t have crossed me up like that if you did,” said Jordan during the meeting. However, this doesn’t end here. A year later, Iverson had tried to formulate his move against Jordan but failed as His Airness was ready for it.

Iverson had tried to cross the ball on top of Jordan but the Bulls All-Star was quick with his moves and stopped the ball. However, the unfortunate part of this revenge was that even after the Bulls legend scored 20 points, the Chicago Bulls were bested by the Philadelphia 76ers 106-96.

Jordan’s response to Iverson’s crossover was a testament to his competitive nature. It demonstrated his ability to bounce back from adversity and his unwavering determination to succeed.
