Following a successful 2023-24 season, the 23-year-old has shown impressive form this season, setting a new record alongside his father, who retired from the league over a decade ago. As the Pippen family celebrates Scotty Jr.’s success, fans have reignited a debate, drawing comparisons between him and King James’ son.

Scotty Jr. recently recorded a triple-double against the Washington Wizards, making him and his father, Scottie Pippen, the first father-son duo to achieve triple-doubles in league history. He dished out 11 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds to lead the Grizzlies to secure a  128-104 win over the Washington Wizards.

His record-setting performance was highlighted by Bleacher Report, garnering considerable attention online. Thrilled by her son’s accomplishment, Scottie’s ex-wife and Scotty Jr.’s mother, Larsa Pippen, quickly commented on the post, sharing fire emojis. While Scottie himself hasn’t made any public statements, he must be excited as well. However, Scotty Jr.’s success has spurred fans to compare his achievements with those of Bronny James.

Drafted 55th overall by the Lakers in 2024, Bronny has faced criticism and accusations of nepotism. Many doubted his readiness for the NBA following his college performance. After playing a year with the USC Trojans, Bronny declared his name for the Lakers. Some speculated that the Lakers selected him mostly to retain LeBron.  

Now, as fans watch another NBA legend’s son grind his way from the G League to the NBA as a Grizzlies star, they’re quick to contrast Bronny’s path with Scotty Jr.’s. Not to mention that the young Pippen played for the Lakers and South Bay Lakers.

After Scotty Jr.’s stunning performance, fans criticize Bronny James 

After watching Scottie Pippen’s son score 14 points in just 26 minutes of playing time against the Lakers, fans began questioning the Lakers’ decision to waive him. His journey has been long playing with the Lakers and then the NBA G League to finally crack a guaranteed deal with the Grizzlies. Shams Charania made the news known and later Pippen confirmed it. However, some fans think Bronny won’t be able to do it. “Bronny could NEVER,” a netizen wrote in the comments section.

Some seemed to regret that the Lakers let him go. The Grizzlies’ 131-114 win over the Lakers even prompted LeBron James to praise Pippen’s son. He recalled that Junior Pippen played like a pro when he was with the Lakers. The 55th pick is yet to do so. So, fans began to speculate that James isn’t satisfied with his own son’s performance. “Scottie is what LeBron wished he had,” a fan suggested.

Since playing for the Grizzlies, Scotty Jr. has begun to amass accolades. He achieved another accomplishment. In his third game of this season, he reached the third position on the NBA assist leaders list. “Bronny finna get a whooping Dawg,” a fan wrote.

Even in the previous season, he had averaged 12.9 points per game. On the other hand, Bronny averaged 1.0 points and 0.5 rebounds per game. Despite Bronny being a rookie, fans compared him with the 23-year-old. And some even assumed that perhaps LeBron James would do the same as this fan wrote, “Bron not getting dinner for a week.”

But even with all the criticism, there’s hope for Bronny as one wrote, “yeah I’m expecting bronny to drop 57 points, 19 rebounds & 42 assists in his G league debut.”

The Lakers have officially announced that Bronny James will be joining the G League. He is set to play with the South Bay Lakers in their next game against the Salt Lake City Stars. As per Shams Charania’s report, James will only participate in the South Bay Lakers’ home games, allowing him to play in NBA games as well.
