Just a week before, former NBA player Sebastian Telfair was dragged into the spotlight and received verbal bashing for bringing up an eyebrow-raising anecdote about the late Kobe Bryant on DJ Vlad’s podcast. The anecdote in question revolves around Bryant’s private life, inclining towards his alleged romantic affairs. Now, the New Jersey comedian Aries Spears featured on the same podcast and asserted that bringing up such personal details about Bryant was not just disrespectful but downright inappropriate, as he called it a “b***h move” by Telfair.

During his interview with Vlad, Aries Spears confronted what he saw was a low blow aimed towards the Bryants. As Vanessa Bryant is still processing the loss of her beloved husband, Telfair’s comments aren’t going to help. Kobe has been laid to rest, and it is only sensible to respect the dead. “Why put that out there? Why take that position? The man is deceased. Out of respect for his widow and his kids, why put that out there?” said Spears, calling the timing as offensive as the content. “What does Telfair gain from this? It’s a b***h move,” the 49-year-old remarked.

The controversy surrounding this whole saga started when Sebastian Telfair shared an old story about Kobe, which painted a different picture of him, one that contrasts with his public image.

The former point guard claimed that despite Bryant’s absence from the clubs, he still had romantic affairs. Telfair recalled one particular incident when a woman from his ex-wife’s social circle vanished for months after a Lakers game, hinting at the woman’s secretive relationship with ‘The Mamba’.

Bringing up such personal matters about Kobe Bryant is particularly inappropriate given that his family is still in the process of honoring his memory. Vanessa Bryant and her children have been actively organizing public and private memorial services to honor Kobe Bryant.

The Bryants continue to honor Kobe Bryant and their daughter Gianna “Gigi” Bryant

Vanessa Bryant has been particularly active in ensuring that Kobe’s legacy is preserved and celebrated. In her efforts to honor and continue Kobe’s legacy, she held a public memorial service at the Staples Center in February 2020, to share emotional tributes with family, friends, and celebrities. The event saw Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal, share their most profound memories with ‘The Mamba’.

Vanessa Bryant has also been involved in private memorials, ensuring that Bryant’s and Gianna’s memories are preserved within the family. In a significant tribute to Kobe Bryant’s legacy, a statue of the NBA legend was unveiled outside the Crypto.com Arena on February 8, 2024. This statue, designed by famous sculptors Omri Amrany and Julie Rotblatt-Amrany, honors Kobe’s achievements with the Los Angeles Lakers and his huge impact on the NBA.

The contrast between Sebastian Telfair’s controversial remakes and Vanessa’s genuine efforts to honor Kobe and Gianna shows the importance of respect and sensitivity while discussing the deceased. Vanessa’s determination to preserve Kobe’s legacy through memorials, statues, and charitable institutions is an example of how to remember loved ones with respect.
