Smith’s first wife stuck with him through everything

In a recent interview with VladTV, Smith revealed he was not always faithful to his wife. During his time with Yolanda, Smith had two kids with her and also adopted Yolanda’s first child, whom she had before meeting Smith.
But Smith was still not in his best behavior. During the interview, Smith revealed he had four kids outside his marriage. But his wife, Yolanda, still stayed with him and did not file for divorce then.
Smith then explained the real reason why his marriage ended. It was when a person sent images of him sleeping to his wife, and this was the last straw for Yolanda. Yolanda decided to file for divorce after that.
Smith said, “The picture. The picture was the final straw cause we was having our issues but we were trying to kinda work it out at the time and that happened. So that kinda pushed her over the edge and she was like I can’t do it no more.“
Smith understood it was his fault, and he respected his wife’s decision. But the divorce was a tough road to recover from.

His first marriage ended in 2011, the year he retired from the NBA. But his divorce from his first wife, Yolanda Smith, did not come without consequences. The divorce settlement was hefty.

During the interview, Smith was asked about his financial situation after his divorce. At that time, Smith was already struggling with his bad financial decisions.
Joe Smith said that he had kept some money for his retirement, and he had to settle the divorce payment with that. When asked how much he had to pay for the divorce, Smith revealed that he lost over half of what he had, which was close to $3 million. After everything ended, Smith found himself in debt, which racked up over $150k.
