Michael Jordan is once again surpassing LeBron James, only this time it’s about aspirations. For those unaware, LeBron James had previously expressed the desire to own an NBA team, especially in Las Vegas. The expansion was supposed to take place after the NBA’s new media rights deal. But now it has reportedly been pushed to sometime in the 2027-28 season. This means further waiting for Bron. Meanwhile, ‘His Airness’ has already joined hands with Magic Johnson to bring an international team to the NBA. However, it’s not as if the 6x NBA champ has no hurdles of his own. And from none other than the President of the United States himself!

This surprising development was first reported by B.C. Mess, a basketball team based in Luxembourg, via a social media post on Facebook.

“Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson have officially announced their takeover of BC Mess, with the intention of making it the first European NBA franchise starting in the 2027/28 season,” the post read. Now, you’d think this kind of groundbreaking move would be met with universal excitement—and locally, it has been. The people of Luxembourg are thrilled, seeing this as a golden opportunity to put their country on the global basketball map. But not everyone is celebrating.

As per the post by B.C. Mess, President Donald Trump has expressed strong opposition, reportedly calling this expansion “another threat to America’s trade deficit with Europe.” In other words, he’s worried that bringing an international team into the NBA could have economic setbacks for the US.

But Trump isn’t just standing on the sidelines watching this unfold. The social media post further mentioned that he’s already announced plans to meet with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. He aims to negotiate what he calls a Super Deal that will somehow benefit the United States. News of relief for sure because it’s not just Michael Jordan who wants to step back into the NBA scenario.

MJ’s legendary former coach from the Chicago Bulls, Phil Jackson, too seems eager to be part of this new chapter in basketball history. “I’ve always wanted to coach a team in a country where the wine is as good as the basketball,” Jackson reportedly joked, according to the B.C. Mess post.

While choosing HC is still a long way off, Johnson and Michael Jordan are focusing on the big picture. As part of their plan, they’ve committed to funding a brand-new, state-of-the-art Basketball Superdome.

The Facebook post by the Luxembourg-based basketball team has emphasized that the new basketball dome won’t be just a flashy addition but will solve a real problem. The Monnerich community has reportedly been stuck with an outdated basketball hall for years, with no clear path to renovations. Thanks to this project, that issue is finally being addressed.

And here’s the exciting part—a location for the Superdome has already been spotted! According to the post, when Jordan and Johnson saw the site, something just clicked. They felt an instant connection to the USA, making their decision a no-brainer.
