Magic Johnson has consistently been among the most giving athletes in the world. Whether it be food drives, donations, or funding events, Magic is involved in every way. A recent expedition saw him team up on a different avenue, though. Despite boosting his portfolio with a multitude of sports, the list is yet to include golf.

A new partnership saw the Los Angeles Lakers legend join hands with a long-standing event on the PGA tour. An event that has been a constant for 88 years now, as Magic tells us, has been instrumental in bringing a ton of change in the community. Especially in the Phoenix area.

Taking to his Instagram, Johnson made the information about his drive available. “It was a beautiful day at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona where I got to speak to over 1,400 people at the Waste Management (WM) Phoenix Open Tee-Off Luncheon, hosted by The Thunderbirds. I want to thank my friend and business partner Kyle Bell for the invitation to speak. The event was moderated by my good friend, hall of famer and Pardon the Interruption co-host Michael Wilbon!”

However, as the epitome of his sport, Johnson’s partnership was with one of the biggest names in the game. “The Thunderbirds have raised more than $190 million for Arizona Charities in its 88-year history as one of the five longest-running events on the PGA TOUR.”

To round it out, the 5x NBA Champion paid credence to a few special people in the world of golf. “Thank you to Tournament Chairman George Thimsen, Chris Karas, and this incredible organization for having me here today!”

Just weeks after his annual food drive, it must have been a special occasion for the Hall of Famer.

Magic Johnson gave back to the community in a unique tradition

A few weeks ago, an 8-year-old tradition came to life for Earvin. Since 2015, the 3x NBA MVP has made it a point to host the Holiday Hope. This time around, Magic, along with his wife Cookie, had a special destination in mind for the initiative.

The food-distributing tradition took the couple back to his hometown of Lansing, Michigan. Further, the entire proceedings took place at the spot where the two tied the knot. As the festive season rolls around, Johnson has made giving back to the community even more of a priority.
