Joining the NBA in 1974, best believe, Bill Walton has seen a whole of the league and its many phases more than many can vouch for. So when the former legend was asked to chime in on Stephen Curry vs Michael Jordan, or rather their two historic franchises, whose growth Walton has been a witness to, he had a great analogy up his sleeve.
On the NBC show with Dan Patrick, back in February last year, Bill Walton was asked who would win between the two eras. He had 3 options, the first was the Bulls sweeping the Warriors and the second was the Bulls just winning against the Warriors. The 3rd one was in favor of warriors, would the warriors beat the bulls?
Even though he was a color commentator he never got involved in comparison. He would call the games on now and enjoy them to the fullest with his infectious ear-to-ear smile. Walton replied to Patrick and said, “I don’t get involved in the ranking and the rating of a historical different teams I just enjoy them all. It’s like going to a Grateful Dead concert you know everybody says well oh I remember back in 1975 at Cornell or wherever it was I mean… ”

His message from the conversation was “That was yesterday, I live in the moment. I tried to learn from yesterday and I dream about the future.” He lived by the motto, “Be better do better do more.” That’s why he never believed in who was better but believed in doing better things himself.
Another analyst has a clear winner in Curry vs Jordan
ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith, who’s good friends with Jordan and is known for being an ardent MJ fan, admitted that Stephen Curry’s impact on the modern NBA exceeds MJ’s influence. During a conversation on ESPN’s First Take, Stephen A. labeled Curry as the “most influential NBA player today.” He said, “biggest influence on NBA today is Stephen Curry. There’s no doubt about it. It’s one thing when you can point to little kids in the streets and what they’re trying to do in terms of shooting threes. You’ve never seen people jack up threes before the way they’re jacking up now… We ain’t never seen people as reliant on long-range bombs the way they’re now because of Steph.”
Stephen A. Smith’s remarks have caught many people off-guard. However, one might argue with his assessment. While Micahel Jordan’s impact and influence on basketball, pop culture, and fashion is undeniable, when it comes to impact on the modern NBA, Stephen Curry reigns supreme. The redefined three-point shooting, his 6’3 stature, innovative point-guard movements, all, and more have culminated to form the ‘Curry effect,’ somewhat backing Smith’s claims.
