Pop culture enthusiasts love to debate who is the Michael Jackson of this generation. Others say he is incomparable. While it’s valid and easily proven, it can’t be the pop scene without a leader who influences a generation and genre at once. Beyonce is much of that in present time. Yet when Magic Johnson made his innocent MJ fanboy spirit known, he kickstarted the debate all over again. While others agree, some names were thrown in to counter his claim. Months later, Beyonce’s relative, colleague, and cheerleader curbed Magic’s timeless MJ agenda a tad.

During his recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Magic said, “There will never be another Michael Jackson.” Now Angie Beyince, a songriter, Sistas star, and Beyonce’s cousin, responded. She reshared the clip on Instagram with Beyonce stickers and a bold statement. “There is 1 woman on this earth that can!” And she means Beyonce Knowles.

Magic meant it as a diehard MJ fanatic since before he was an NBA superstar. He said that statement when he was recounting to Jennifer Hudson how he came to star in MJ’s iconic music video for “Remember the Time” with Iman and Eddie Murphy. It sparked a lifelong friendship till the music legend’s demise.

Angie spurred a social media debate again. Some agree with her, some agree with Magic, others say both the King of Pop and Queen Bey are different and great in their own rights. But it’s all in jest, guys. No need to sharpen the pitchforks. The Johnsons and the extended Knowles-Carter brood are longtime friends.

Magic’s wife, Cookie Johnson and Beyonce’s mom, Tina Knowles have a common social circle. In recent history, Tina and her gang of girls stopped by at Nordstrom for Mother’s Day to support Magic and Cookie’s daughter, Elisa on her sunglasses brand’s trunk show. She even made Tina a loyal customer with her designs.

The Johnsons have been just as supportive of Beyonce and Jay-Z in their respective career milestones. It doesn’t look like Magic will get into an argument with Tina’s niece. Though Beyince has a habit of taking on basketball greats.

Magic isn’t the only one who’s triggered Beyince. The multi-hyphenate is a native of Galveston, and we know why this city has been a hot topic in the NBA community lately. Charles Barkley took on an entire city by poking fun at Galveston’s “dirty a**” water and beaches on Inside the NBA. He apologized to Tina Knowles, also a Galveston native but kept up the ribbing.

Beyince responded on Instagram, “@shaq & @charleswbarkley why y’all gotta do me & my Aunt @mstinaknowles home town like that!!” But told her fellow Galvestonites, “All press is good press.” Hilariously, she confessed she’s been trying to get Jay-Z to plan a family vacation to Galveston for 20 years but he refuses.

There are some battles Angie Beyince needs to let go of. At least the Galveston one. Do you think she’s made a valid point about MJ and Beyonce?
