It’s uncommon for the one and only Michael Jordan to see himself in a young athlete. So Anthony Edwards’ day, season, and career were made by His Airness while he’s still in the running for that Michael Jordan MVP trophy. But before the messenger, Chris Broussard, delivered the ultimate praise from MJ himself, he put a stinging disclaimer out there. Way to dampen the mood, Chris.
He’s being realistic though, before this starts any premature conversation while on First Things First. “He’s [Anthony Edwards] not going to ever be in the GOAT conversation,” Broussard said it like it is despite Antman’s potential. “As great as he will be he’s not going to be in the GOAT conversation.”
Once he made that clear, Broussard dropped the appreciative message from Jordan. “I reached out to the GOAT today, Michael Jordan,” he said and had everyone’s attention then. “And Jordan said there are similarities in their games. He agreed. So, if Jordan says there are similarities, there are similarities.”

His little warning in the beginning was lost in this mindblowing response from Jordan. The 6x champion is camera shy and doesn’t usually appear in interviews. To hear from him and acknowledge the comparisons between himself and Ant are valid is a different kind of notch. But Edwards himself is more likely to agree with Broussard.

This season, the Timberwolves star has upset the MVP odds by emerging as a strong contender for the title. Several NBA veterans like Patrick Beverley are seeing the MJ-ness in him. He’s delivered more moments on court that make him look like the second coming of Black Jesus. Most recently, he went viral for a Jordan-esque dunk on Utah Jazz’s John Collins.
As much as they see a stellar future for Edwards, the 22-year-old pleaded to ease up the pressure. “I just want them to stop,” He said in December when the comparisons were at their peak. “Because he’s [Jordan] the greatest to ever play basketball and I’m so far from it.”

A little difficult to follow Ant’s request. He’s largely been responsible for putting the Wolves in second seed in the West. Individually, he’s averaging 26.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists so far. Edwards is keeping it humble and not comparing himself to MJ. He, however, once said his aspiration is to be the face of the NBA the way Jordan was. That Broussard said has a strong chance of coming true. Who do you agree with – Broussard or MJ?
