Is Charles Barkley hinting at retirement, or is he just being brutally honest about his health?

Charles Barkley has us go through several highs and lows all at once. With tension looming over TNT’s drama with the NBA, Chuck had only heightened it by hinting at a sudden retirement. He changed his mind later on, however, the case is not over yet. He still wants to retire after 62. Amidst this uncertainty, he’s also offered hope with the announcement of the relaunch of his production company. He will still be around.

Upon relaunching ‘Round Mound Media’, Barkley revealed the reason behind redefining the media house he originally launched nearly seven years ago on ‘The Jim Jackson Show’. While he aims to promote more inclusion and variety in his content, there’s another motivation behind this new venture.

“We’re never gonna do trash I mean I don’t need money this is just kind of a arm of me figuring out what happens when I’m done with television because you know you want to make money when you’re sitting at home,” Barkley said.

He explained that this company will become his creative outlet after he retires from broadcasting. Now, thanks to a change of heart, his retirement, which was slated for after the 2024-25 NBA season, will be delayed. As mentioned before, Barkley hasn’t fully reversed his decision. The Chuckster remains concerned about whether he’ll have the energy to continue working at TNT after turning 62.

“I’ll be 62 years old it’ll be 25 years at Turner and I don’t know if I have the energy because I take my job very serious I work my a** off and I want people to love basketball, enjoy basketball, but my biggest concern is do I want to go through the grind?” Chuck wondered as he said.

The Philadelphia 76ers legend is approaching that particular age and may soon opt for retirement. Furthermore, he is nearing 25 years at TNT, it’s unclear when a final decision will be made. In the meantime, it seems he will likely shift more focus to his company which is bolstered by an important partnership.

The meaning behind the relaunch was to bring in more engagement and a new partnership. The Phoenix Suns legend has made a deal with ‘EverWonder Studios’. In an interview, Barkley shared that his company will focus on developing scripted, documentary, and live shows. He also clarified that the shows and categories he envisions are already in development.

Out of the 10 shows in talks to be led by the company, one is a “definitive” documentary that will follow Barkley’s life. Interestingly, this is a reunion for Barkley and another former key member of the TNT.

“Round Mound Media is about creating an outlet for my vision to share compelling, original stories meant to captivate audiences across the world. I’ve always looked for projects and relationships that will allow me to be authentic, and hopefully to build my platform for making the world a better place,” Barkley said about the partnership.

For those who may not know, EverWonder is supported by Jeff Zucker’s RedBird IMI. Zucker is a familiar name, having worked with both CNN and Turner Sports. Currently, former Time Studios chief Ian Orefice oversees EverWonder Studios. Barkley is likely to get more busy the next year.
