In an official statement on August 31, Winfrey and Johnson launched the People’s Fund of Maui. They are together contributing an initial sum of $10 million to the displaced individuals.

They said via the statement that the fund’s aim is “putting money directly in the pockets” of the islanders impacted by the calamity. This initiative is very close to the duo.
