Will Kiyan Anthony follow Carmelo's legacy at Syracuse, or carve his own path at USC?

“Behind the scenes, I watched my dad’s podcast grow from nothing,” said Kiyan Anthony in an appearance on Overtime’s The Evolu7ion series. Premiered in November 2023, the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast became an instant hit not just because of Carmelo Anthony’s influence but also because of what it stood for, at the end of the day: a crossover between basketball and culture. And now, it’s returning with a bang!

Kiyan Anthony may have been having a hectic week finalizing the college program he’ll be joining. But so has his father. From the launch of the new wine to promoting it on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to launching a new season of his podcast, Carmelo Anthony has had it all covered. Considering the mark it left in just a year, it’s no surprise that 7PM in Brooklyn is back for another season. It won’t just be better; it’ll be bigger, too!

In a statement about the podcast’s return, Carmelo Anthony said, 7PM in Brooklyn has always been a space where authentic conversations meet the heart of basketball and culture, and I’m excited for fans to experience the fresh immersive journey we’ve created this season.” Building anticipation for the new season, he continued, In Season 2, we’re raising the bar even higher, building on the momentum from the first season while introducing new voices and perspectives. This season is set to deliver dynamic, insightful conversations that fans won’t find anywhere else!”

What new voices is the Nuggets legend talking about? Boardroom’s Instagram post cleared that up.

Posting Anthony’s statement, the caption read, “The hit Wave Sports + Entertainment series brings hoops and culture back together with host Carmelo Anthony at the helm, joined by a lineup of rotating co-hosts including former NBA star Rudy Gay, rising NBA & WNBA media personality Monica McNutt, Emmy-winning TV host Kazeem Famuyide, and the always-entertaining The Kid Mero.” Yes, season 2 will have more co-hosts, when previously, it was just Kid Mero and Melo.

Boardroom also exclusively revealed the stats behind the hit podcast. “Since its November 2023 debut, the series has already racked up over 28 million YouTube views and 100 million social impressions across platforms, setting a high bar for the season ahead.” Carmelo Anthony even shared the story on Instagram, writing, “Season 2🫡.” To give viewers a taste of what’s to come, they even released a preview of the first episode on November 12! And, well, the discussion was interesting, to say the least.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Kiyan Anthony follow Carmelo's legacy at Syracuse, or carve his own path at USC?

Have an interesting take?

The topic of conversation was Drake. And it wasn’t about his beef with Kendrick Lamar. This was about the Canadian rapper’s comments about former Raptor and current Kings star DeMar DeRozan. “If you ever put up a DeRozan banner, I’ll go up there and take it down myself,” Drake said about the prospect of the Raptors retiring DeRozan’s jersey. Addressing this, Carmelo Anthony said, “I think Drake was hurt a little bit because of the relationship he built with DeMar in Toronto.

“Representing the 6, Raptors — you know that was a lot of connection with those two. He’s a Raptor for life from a basketball standpoint. Yes, that jersey should be going up,” he added. What did his new co-host, Rudy Gay, have to say? “That’s wack, man. Drake is wack for that… You gotta pull up on DeMar if you feel that way before you go on camera.”

Evidently, the former NBA stars aren’t on board with the rapper’s views on DeRozan’s time with the Raptors. Set for its full premiere on Friday, fans can expect more to come on this topic as well as much more. That said, Rudy Gay, Monica McNutt, and Kazeem Famuyide already appeared in Season 1 as guests. So this season will see them have more roles going forward.

In fact, Rudy Gay already expressed his excitement to host the podcast alongside Anthony. “I’m excited to be joining the 7PM in Brooklyn family and collaborate with a team that has established itself as a leader in helping athletes create impactful digital content,” he said. “Carmelo is one of my favorite people on and off the court, and I can’t wait to see what we cook up together.”

The premier episode will be about Kiyan Anthony revealing his college basketball commitment.

Season 2 of Carmelo Anthony’s podcast will start with a bang

Recruiting analyst Dushawn London previously revealed this on X. “NEWS: Kiyan Anthony, a Top 35 prospect in the Class of 2025, will announce his college decision Friday, November 15th on his father’s show 7PM in Brooklyn. Anthony is the son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony. Finalists: Syracuse, USC, and Auburn.”

Then, on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Carmelo Anthony put further doubts to rest by removing another college. “I’m a little nervous, but yes. He is deciding which college he wants to go to. It’s down to two. It’s down to Syracuse and USC.” So, now, the 17-year-old has two choices in front that could shape his future. He previously hinted, “If one-and-done happens, it happens.”

Does that mean he is following in his dad’s footsteps? Whatever the case might be, the decision will be revealed soon. For Carmelo Anthony to create such a wave in less than a year is commendable. It has already featured guests like Jayson Tatum, Dwyane Wade, Rich Paul, and the young Kiyan himself. With the addition of the new hosts, we might see some unexpected guests. Who do you want to see?
