Anthony Edwards hyping Lily Zhang—Is this the sportsmanship we need more of in today's competitive world?

“Ant! They said they’d smack you 21-0!” Anthony Edwards was told regarding a hypothetical matchup against the USA Table Tennis team. “I’m not having it,” he had replied back. But all seemed forgotten as soon as Lily Zhang took the stage against Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi in the Round of 32. Standing in the stands, smiling ear to ear, Edwards cheered as Zhang clinched a crucial point. The instance went around to reach Kevin Garnett, who had a hilarious reaction of his own.

Garnett, known for his animated comments, couldn’t resist sharing the clip on his X account. With just one word, “Nah,” accompanied by three laughing emojis, Garnett expressed his amusement. The Boston legend then added, “That’s me during the handball matches… shyt be havin me gassssed,” complete with a 100 and a winner’s medal emoji.

“That’s what I’m talking about,” an excited Anthony Edwards was seen mouthing as Zhang won four sets to advance to the final setting. The 28-year-old was among the 4 Table Tennis players who reportedly challenged Edwards, delivering the final result themselves – 21-0. “They said they can smack you 21 nothing,” Stephen Curry conveyed. “Eleven to zero? I’m scoring one point,” the 22-year-old replied back.

Will the two come to be rivals in a face-off soon? Hopefully. But right now, all three—Edwards, Curry, and Zhang—are focused on clinching gold for Team USA. Edwards will get back to what he does best on the 31st when he, Curry, and USAMBNT face the South Sudan basketball team, who left a significant mark in their previous matchup.

However, we won’t be seeing Kevin Garnett’s handball in the Olympics who haven’t secured a berth in the games since 1996. Nonetheless, that doesn’t seem to have lessened any passion for the Celtics star.

Fans first got a glimpse of Kevin Garnett’s interest in handball when he shared a video on Instagram back in 2023. The clip showcased a handball player executing an incredible throw, twisting the ball with a peculiar wrist technique and launching it with a ridiculous spin. Garnett clearly expressed his impression, captioning the post, “WTF kind of technique is this, nahhh.” This moment marked the beginning of his fascination with the sport.

Apart from that, Garnett also finds his interest in soccer. A fan for much longer therein. In a 2006 interview, he revealed that his teammate Marko Jarić was the one who first introduced him to soccer. That introduction turned into a passion, and Garnett soon found himself deeply invested in the sport, as he even attempted to purchase a minority stake in an iconic Italian soccer club, AS Roma.

Unfortunately, the deal fell through because of complications, but Garnett’s enthusiasm for soccer didn’t wane. He continued to immerse himself in the sport, including visiting the iconic Chelsea stadium, Stamford Bridge, where he swapped jerseys with some of the first-team players.
