In 2011, the Miami Heat advanced to the NBA Finals only to fall to rivals Dallas Mavericks. Dwayne Wade, who was then playing for the Heat, and was instrumental in leading the team to the finals, bore the brunt of the loss more than anyone else. In a controversial move, the owner of LIV Club at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, David Grutman, allowed the rivals to celebrate their victory in the club.
The Mavs had defeated the Heat and celebrated in Miami, which was like rubbing it in their faces. Many did not take it too well, especially Dwyane. Already dealing with the loss, he discovered that his long-time friend David had allowed the Mavs to celebrate at the LIV Club. In a recent episode of The Why With Dwyane Wade show, he gives us a glimpse of his thought process while dealing with the situation.

After getting wind of the celebrations at LIV, Dwyane hilariously admits that he started bombarding his teammates with calls. “I started calling people on my team and tried to see if they were having a good time cuz I wasn’t. And I didn’t want anybody to have fun,” he says. Fortunately, none of his teammates were at the club. Otherwise, they would have faced Dwyane’s wrath because he claims, “I was ready to fire people for no reason, just if they were celebrating at LIV.”
To say that the 13X NBA All-Star was furious at the loss would be an understatement. In fact, he admits that he drove around aimlessly just to let off some steam. Now, speaking with David on the show, he reveals, “It wasn’t just you I was angry at, it was everybody and anybody.” However, that is all in the past, and the two friends don’t appear to be at odds with one another.
Dwyane turned to yoga
Given his fierce competitive nature, it is only fitting for Dwyane to sometimes lose his cool while dealing with huge game losses. In retrospect, the present Dwyane would have handled the situation differently. He talks about his newfound love for yoga and how it helped him gain more control and insight into his mental state.

However, he reveals that yoga helped him build the mental fortitude to overcome such downfalls. “I always wanted to have a mental advantage over my competition. That’s what made me great,” he says. After retiring from the NBA in 2019, Dwyane religiously practices yoga to prioritize his mental and physical well-being.
