Not much success in the big league yet, but college basketball had Angel Reese among the ones capable of changing the WNBA scenario. Women’s college basketball stars like her and Caitlin Clark garnered significant viewership for their matches in March Madness. And even though she failed to claim the NCAA championship, Reese had a successful season in terms of stats. Now, an article by ‘The Sports News’ has revealed the secret behind her college basketball success.

The article stated, “Reese grew up studying game from another Charm City icon: Dunbar alum Muggsy Bogues.” After around a week of the publishing of the article, Bogues recently took to his official X account and mentioned that the Chicago Sky star made the right choices growing up. “Much respect to my fellow B-More native Angel Reese… As you can tell by her 🔥🔥🔥 start to her WNBA career, she was clearly studying the right people growing up😂💪🏽,” read the post by the 5’3″ former NBA star.

Despite not having the conventional height of an NBA star, Bogues played for more than a decade in the league. Although he was not a proficient scorer, he was quite skilled at making the game for his teammates. It wasn’t for nothing that the 59-year-old still holds the 25th spot in NBA history to have the highest number of career assists (6,726). However, the season 1993-94 was Muggsy’s most impressive one, as he averaged a double-double in this season.

Taking from her idol, Angel Reese has also achieved a similar feat in her college basketball days. She averaged a double-double not in just one but all seasons of her college basketball career, except for freshman year. The 22-year-old closed her college basketball career with an impressive stat-line of 18.6 points and 12.3 rebounds per game.

How is Angel Reese’s WNBA run going so far?

The 22-year-old has played just 5 games in the big league so far. Speaking of stats in these games, she has averaged 12.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. This also includes a double-double (11 points, 12 rebounds) in her last face-off against Seattle Storm.

However, as a team, the Chicago Sky has faced some struggles, winning just 2 games of the 5 played so far. Despite this, ‘Chi-Barbie’ has gained a notable fan for herself in Michael Jordan’s ex-wife. Even after losing the recent match to Storm, Juanita Vanoy praised the 22-year-old.

“Well, we didn’t get the W, but Angel Reese got a double double,” she wrote on Instagram. Moreover, there is still a long way to go for the Sky in the league. All that is left for the rookie is to replicate a college-like scoring proficiency in the league, as she seems to be sorted on the rebounding front.
