Victor Wembanyama has made his mark in the NBA. He has been great so far and has mostly lived up to all the expectations. Although Shaquille O’Neal recently tried to downplay the hype surrounding the French League MVP, Boston Celtics legend Kevin Garnett wants Wembanyama to prove people wrong.

Garnett is looking forward to Wembanyama going up against various stars in the league. But the one that he is eagerly awaiting is his matchup against Bol Bol.

Kevin Garnett wants this matchup, but it’s too late

In a new video uploaded by KG Certified, Kevin Garnett shines a light on the impact Victor Wembanyama has had on the San Antonio Spurs. During the conversation with Tony Squares, the two went back and forth with different stars in the league they would like to see Wembanyama go up against. Squares wanted to see him face Kevin Durant. But Garnett made a surprising selection and picked Bol Bol.

This is also because of the recent comparison that Shaquille O’Neal made. Wembanyama has been turning heads and impressing people anytime he steps on the court. The Indiana Pacers legend Reggie Miller was also one of the many who have been impressed by this young talent. Miller said that he had seen no one like Wembanyama before.

Shaq addressed this on Inside the NBA. He said that we have seen someone like Wembanyam before, and it was Bol Bol. This left the other hosts and even the fans wondering what Shaq was talking about. The only thing that Bol Bol has in similarity with Wembanyama is their physical attributes.

To compare the French league MVP who has been a revelation to the San Antonio Spurs to someone who is not able to find rotational minutes on the Phoenix Suns is just bewildering.

But Garnett wants to see the matchup and put the talk to bed. The Spurs played against the Suns two times already this year, but Bol Bol never even got a chance to step foot on the court.

The only real competition is Wembanyama

Wembanyama has been leading the Spurs in points, rebounds, steals, and blocks. He was even the leading scorer in their second game against the Suns, and he even outscored Kevin Durant. Even as a rookie, Wembanyama has already accomplished far more than Bol Bol has in his four seasons in the league. But another player who should be added to the list that can be compared to Wembanyama has been proving his talent this year.

The real rivalry that people are hoping to see in the future is between Wembanyama and Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren. The two faced each other on the court today, and the results were unexpected. The Thunder completely dominated the Spurs. Both Holmgren and Wembanyama played limited minutes with almost identical numbers.

Currently, in the Rookie of the Year race, Holmgren is one of the few who is giving Wembnnyama a run for his money according to ESPN. Holmgren has been great so far this season. He is averaging 15.7 PPG with an extremely good shooting percentage. With the two of them being in the same conference, the fans can see them go up against each other multiple times a year.
