The Lakers’ acquisition of Bronny James has received both praise and drama. There’s a constant chant of ‘Nepo product’ on social media while many defend the father-son. After LeBron James‘ friend and former teammate Dwyane Wade, Kenyon Martin joins the supporters to take a stand for the father of three. Speaking from his experience of having his son drafted into the league, Martin related to Bronny’s situation.

He further stated that he was more nervous when his son was drafted. I know the feeling, right? KJ was a 52nd pick. I know the feeling of having your son name call,” Martin said on the Gil’s Arena Podcast. Martin’s experience with his son is the reason why the retired NBA player can relate to ‘King James’ and Bronny.

He further added, To share that, knowing the feeling that you had when your name was called, it doesn’t equate, dog. Like I was more of a nervous wreck. I’m pretty sure LeBron was as well but the situations was more lined up than it but I was more of a nervous wreck than KJ and my wife like listen go over there don’t let him see you like.”

The 46-year-old was talking about his son Kenyon Martin Jr. (KJ). The 6-foot-6 player was selected by the Houston Rockets as the 52nd pick in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft.

During an interview with Craig Melvin for Today, Wade also defended Bronny. The chants don’t seem to be getting quieter anytime soon. After he was selected as the 55th pick in the second round of the NBA draft, many netizens claimed that Bronny only got the chance because of his influential father. Many have argued that the 19-year-old is not fit enough to play in the big league, and the list goes on. If anything, the chants have only grown louder after Bronny James’ introductory press conference.

After expressing gratitude, Bronny shared what he thinks about the constant criticism. “It’s for sure amplified the amount of pressure. I’ve already seen it in media and on the internet and stuff talking about [how] I might not deserve an opportunity. But I’ve been dealing with stuff like this for my whole life. It’s nothing different. It’s more amplified for sure, but I can get through it,” Bronny said as his father watched him.
