Throughout his career, Magic Johnson has shown just how much he cares about the well-being of others. The latest addition to the athlete-billionaire club has spread the wealth as one of the NBA’s greatest point guards and as a dedicated philanthropist. Only last month, the Los Angeles Lakers legend was declared a billionaire with a current net worth of $1.2 billion. He appears to be using the wealth wisely and for great causes.
On Saturday night, Magic made an initial donation of $600,000 to Delaware State University. But he has promised to continue his investment into the historically Black college. As per Delaware Online, the university’s Scholarship Ball on Saturday night achieved great success, thanks to a generous donation and pledge from Magic Johnson.
Contributing $600,000 initially, Johnson has promised an additional $1 million to support Delaware State’s ongoing growth. There were other members as well who made significant contributions.

1983 graduate of what was then Delaware State College and an automotive executive, Steve Ewing, bestowed $1 million upon the university. It is the largest donation ever made by an alumnus in the institution’s 132-year history.

Altogether, Magic Johnson and the other high-profile attendees helped the University raise around $3million. Of course, this is just another contribution Magic has made for American academia. He has been actively participating in raising funds for colleges, long before attaining his billionaire status.

As a Lansing native, Magic ensures to make a notable contribution to his community. He was able to raise more than $1 million for The Lansing Promise scholarship in 2015.
Johnson later stated that the funds comprised $300,000 from his own contribution, $250,000 from Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores, and $25,000 from Miami Heat president Pat Riley.
He also continues to contribute to areas like education, HIV/AIDS awareness, and economic empowerment, and for his work, Magic recently received an achievement award.
