It was a crazy week in the NBA as far as scoring is concerned. Two players broke the 70-point barrier in a matter of days and made history. Joel Embiid‘s 70 points against the San Antonio Spurs and Luka Doncic‘s 73: both games were worth the money for the fans. However, there’s more to it than what meets the eye.

At least, Chandler Parsons believes so. The ex-NBA star thinks that what Embiid did against the Spurs and especially against Victor Wembanyama was a statement.

During the recent episode of the Run It Back show, Parsons said that Embiid was trying to show Wembanyama what playing in the big league is all about. In a week where we saw some of the best performances, Parsons said that Embiid’s 70-point outburst was a cut above the rest. He said, “I think, first of all, it was a statement game, it was against Wembanyama on national TV and he wanted to prove that he is gonna dominate him from start to finish and it was efficient.”

Parsons believes that there was something on Embiid’s mind and he wanted to prove himself against a highly talked about youngster. He said, “To me this was a tone setter, this was an example, [Joel Embiid] said alright Wemby, you’re going to be the future of the NBA, but right now it’s mine.”

Victor Wembanyama was inspired by Joel Embiid’s performance

You don’t get to witness a 70-point game every day. However, this week was different because within a matter of days, we saw Embiid dropping 70 and then the Dallas Mavericks star Doncic topping it with 73 against the Atlanta Hawks. Although Parsons believes that the Philadelphia 76ers star was making a statement against Wembanyama, the rookie seems to be inspired by it. After the game, he called Embiid’s performance “inspiring” for him.

Wembanyama also talked about how the league has changed from what it used to be. He said, “A few years back, it was more of a guard’s game but now, it’s come back to a big man’s game. I think it makes sense in terms of the game. We’ve got guys, some guys all around the league who do a lot of stuff despite being very tall.” He took it in the right spirits and said that it is time for him and other players in the league to adapt to the change.
