Tensions have long simmered between the Washington Wizards’ 1st draft pick of 2001 and Agent Zero who also came by the same draft class. It’s unexplainable but the beef between Kwame Brown and Gilbert Arenas surfaces oddly. It’s not only offhanded comments on Gil’s Arena. Recently the feud revived in an absurd manner when Allen Iverson intervened. The Answer is the peacekeeper of the league and he didn’t like two of his favorites were at odds. He’s finally opened up about his involvement in this situation. The twist? To Kwame Brown.
It slipped under NBA social media radar that Allen Iverson supposedly called Arenas to get him to bury the hatchet with Brown. The feud never settled through AI but got complicated.
Kwame Brown started the week with an episode of ‘Kwame Brown Bust Life’ where he denied Iverson mediated. At least not with him. While emphasizing his friendship with Iverson, he confirmed there’s no reconciling with Arenas with or without intervention.

The very next day, he was back with another episode of ‘Bust Life’, this time with AI himself (or allegedly, it’s just a voice with no indication of who’s speaking). Iverson had to first let listeners know that we don’t know the Kwame Brown he does. But when Brown claims that Arenas tried to make him look stupid, AI was a bit defensive.
“When I talk to Gil, he didn’t give me that impression…” He said before confirming his intervention. “I’m just trying to stop the bulls–t.” He also implied that Arenas was willing to cut the attacks but Brown didn’t believe Arenas wants peace.
The estrangement between the former Wizards teammates is complicated enough. It still begs the question, how is The Answer involved.
What’s ‘The Answer’ to Kwame Brown and Gilbert Arenas’ feud?
Brown’s claim to fame was being handpicked by Michael Jordan for the Washington Wizards first overall. In that same draft, the Warriors picked Gilbert Arenas in the second round. It wouldn’t be until Arenas arrived in Washington in 2003 and Jordan retired, that Agent Zero became a legitimate star on the court. He was in his prime when he suited up for the Wizards while the former no.1 draft pick became the biggest draft bust in NBA history.

As an NBA talking head now, Arenas holds Allen Iverson as his standard for most analysis when it comes to skill and culture. Arenas can bring The Answer into any discussion on his podcast effectively to make his point. You can see why he doesn’t hold Brown to that standard.
“His problem wasn’t he didn’t have skill. The problem is, he didn’t wanna do nothing. It came to the point where it’s like, I’m afraid to try and fail,” Arenas once explained Brown’s bust label.
In contrast, AI denies Brown is a draft bust. He previously said being picked no.1 was a lot of pressure on Brown and that’s why he took him under his wing. Even on Bust Life, Iverson repeatedly claims he knows Kwame is better than the people who made him a draft bust joke.

Earlier this week, Brown tackled the claims he asked AI to get Arenas off his back. “These lie so much… Beautiful lies. They say I call Allen Iverson to get Gilbert Arenas off of me… Gilbert Arenas ain’t even saying nothing about me.”
But Iverson himself admitted he wanted to patch things between them. With no origin nor communication between Brown and Arenas, his chances of succeeding seem very slim.
