The Philadelphia 76ers’ tribute to Allen Iverson, while well-intentioned, is not going down well. The 76ers unveiled an Iverson statue in their ‘Legends Walk’ outside their practice facility in Camden, New Jersey. One might think a statue; what an honor. Perhaps, not. The size of the metal art piece has caused a furor in a section of AI’s fans. Most believe the statue is too small and does not justify the 11x All-Star’s legacy. Amid this, rapper Mason Betha has weighed in on Iverson’s opinion of the statue.
“AI wouldn’t have approved of no statue that shorter than he is,” Mase stated, appearing on the ‘It Is What It Is’ podcast. The rapper suggested a do-over of the statue by the Sixers, if possible, “And if they don’t get it right, it looks like every ni***r from the hood… So they gotta get that right,” Mase said.

However, it is worth mentioning that the statues of other ex-Sixers in the ‘Legends Walk’ are also of similar size. Cam’ron, nevertheless, reiterated that this generation of fans associate more with AI than they would with Maurice Cheeks. So, the size of the statue does make a difference. It is also not as if it is just the fans who lost their cool on the 76ers’ supposed big tribute to Iverson. Some members of the NBA community also raised their objections to the size of the statue.
NBA stars disappointed with Philly’s Allen Iverson tribute
Among the first ones to react to the issue was ex-LA Clippers star Jamal Crawford. Taking to his official account on X, Jamal posted, “The Sixers should be ashamed of themselves with the size of that statue!” Following him was Kevin Garnett, who liked the idea of the statue but demanded a change in the size of it through his Instagram story.
“Nah Philly … No No 000000 Philly… love the statue but it’s GOTTA BE WAYYYY BIGGER.. Wayyyyyyyy bigger 100… Cmon Sixers .. Congratulations to AI n his family but that needs to be bigger! That’s just mew 100… @theofficialai3 @sixers… Respect,” read the IG story by Kevin.
The most vocal one from the basketball community turned out to be Matt Barnes. He was furious at the statue unveiled by Philly and posted a video message regarding the same on his official ‘X’ account. “… What the f*ck did the Philadelphia 76ers just try to do for Allen Iverson? I know the whole city of Philadelphia’s gotta be embarrassed of that sh*t. That a trophy or a statue?… That sh*t is terrible,” Barnes stated in the video.
