Jason Williams has no problem being candid about his “extracurricular” activities as he dubbed it. While on PlayersTV, he was sincerely glad about the league’s recent laxity on this stance. In the past, Williams has faced suspensions for smoking pot and not following the NBA’s erstwhile anti-drug program. About a decade since he was in the NBA, these rules have been altered for the players.

He started this week’s PlayersTV by saying, “Alc*hol is way worse than w**d for an athlete.” Staying on the unfiltered theme of the show, White Chocolate and comedian Bubba Dub dissected the NBA’s change in policy. In 2021, the league announced it would no longer randomly test players for m*rijuana use while they test for performance-enhancing drugs or other substances.

Williams supports taking m*rijuana off that list in his “personal opinion.” He tried to illustrate hypothetical scenarios to explain how smoking plant-based substances is different from anything on that list the league tests for. “I’m glad they going drug test no more cuz I smoke.” He emphasized that it gave him the liberty to recreationally smoke with players who share his hobby without fearing the tests.

Despite this stance, Williams clarified to Bubba that smoking did not make him a better player. “I think it helped my imagination a little bit,” he said but advised against doing it before a game. He however admits that his advice is not heeded as a lot of players have different ways to calm down.

Williams was suspended from the University of Florida for smoking and he entered the 1998 NBA draft. He recently told on The OGs, “They didn’t like my extracurriculars.” as the reason for his dismissal in college. He faced suspensions a few times for failure to comply with the NBA’s anti-drug program too and had a colorful NBA career albeit a successful.

He told his co-host that it was hard to stick to his hobby when he was an NBA player because they’d have multiple random tests during training camps. He emphasized how strict it was back then. He said that when teams didn’t make it to the playoffs and players were heading to vacations early, they’d have to inform the league about missing the mandatory tests. He believes the change in rules are because Adam Silver has a different stance from his predecessors and he appreciates the current NBA commissioner for that.
