Can Dwight Howard's dance moves outshine his basketball legacy, or is he just having fun?

Dwight Howard’s career has been filled with his ability to adapt and evolve. On the court, he transformed from a raw high school prospect into a defensive power, earning three consecutive Defensive Player of the Year titles. Off the court, one of his abilities has been on display for a long time. What is it? Dancing – the world first saw his off-court prowess during Orlando Magic’s playoff run in 2010. Now, as he has again traded off his sneakers for dancing shoes, former Dancing with the Stars winner Iman Shumpert has given a new light to it.

In a short interview with TMZ, Shumpert, who made history as the first former NBA player to win Dancing with the Stars in 2021 shared his thoughts on Howard’s performances. “He gonna win, he got Daniella. He’s going to win man, he can do all the lifts. He can carry up, pick up move around whatever ya’ll want too see he got it man. He can lift up better than me. He’s got to win, just tell him to remember to smile, said Shumpert during the interview.

One of the reasons why Shumpert says that Howard’s going to win is quite understandable. The former NBA champ’s journey on the Dancing with the Stars has been nothing short of remarkable. Initially, his towering 6-foot-10 height alongside his professional partner Daniella Karagach’s 5-foot-3 was seen as a potential hindrance, yet their chemistry played out so well that the fans are left in awe. In the first week of the show, the duo chose salsa as their first dance and showed their moves by dancing to the hit song “This is How We Do It” by Montell Jordan. They ended up getting 22 out of 30 points from the judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough which made them sit in second place. But what is the second reason?

Sumpert speculates that Howard will win is because of his pro partner Daniella Karagach. The former shooting guard himself won the coveted Mirrorball trophy when he teamed up with the seasoned champion and Emmy-nominated choreographer. After 10 weeks of competition, the duo in the finals performed a freestyle dance to the song ‘Lose Control’ by Missy Elliot, which left the judges stunned.

Whether Howard ultimately takes home the trophy or not, his participation in Dancing With the Stars has already accomplished something significant: it has reminded us that growth and reinvention are possible at any stage of life. However, did you know this isn’t the only TV show that Howard has worked on?
