Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal retired 12 years ago. But the spotlight has followed him, even off the court. From his antics as a TNT host to his incredibly active social media posts, Shaq knows how to stay relevant. In recent days, the focus slowly seems to be shifting to his children as they are gaining traction for their blooming personal lives. Shaq’s son, Myles O’Neal recently made his UFC debut by performing as a DJ at an after-party in Vegas.

Shaq’s two other children have also become the center of focus. The basketball-playing siblings made headlines after snubbing their own father.

Shaq’s daughter chooses brother over the four-time champion

Shaquille O’Neal is the father of six children. Amongst the four children that Shaq had with his wife, Shaunie Henderson, 23-year-old Shareef O’Neal is the eldest son, while 17-year-old Me’arah O’Neal is the only daughter. Both children have followed in their father’s footsteps to become basketball icons. While Shareef plays as a power forward in the NBA G League. Me’arah has had a stellar high school career and has even received an offer to play for the LSU Tigers, alongside ESPY winner Angel Reese.

A few days ago, Miss O’Neal participated in the Nike Girls Elite Youth Girls Basketball tournament alongside her team, the CyFair Elite. Shaq himself was in attendance during the match, proud of how far his daughter has come.

During a Q and A session taken after the contest, a representative from the Lexington Herald-Leader asked the young athlete about who plays the biggest influence on her game. Me’arah did not choose her father.

Instead of naming Shareef by claiming that she has spent almost half of her life watching him play. She adopted his style of gameplay and made a few tweaks to it in order to reach where she is right now. A heartwarming, if not bold, shoutout.

Shareef shares his sister’s post online

A few days after Shaq was snubbed, Shareef took to social media to reciprocate the respect he received from his sister.

Me’arah recently uploaded a few pics from her previous matches on Instagram. Looking determined in all of the pictures, the young athlete captioned the post “keep that foot onna gas… #ontothenext”

Shareef O’Neal also took to Instagram to share the post on his story with his 2.8 Million followers. He captioned the post with a simple four-letter word: ‘Twin.

Me’arah, who averaged 5.3 points, 4.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds during the first 24 games of her high school career. Now, she is getting the respect of her brother and fellow athlete.

Only time will tell where this support will take the duo with respect to their basketball careers.
