4 days ago, LeBron James made his endorsement for the next President of America. With over 90 million views on his X post alone, the LA Lakers superstar chose Kamala Harris. With election day upon us, some thought even Michael Jordan endorsed one of the nominees. But as stated by the Chicago Bulls legend multiple times, he is not sharing his political views this time too.
The representation of the 6x Champion exclusively spoke to DailyMail.com. “There is absolutely no truth to the claim that Michael Jordan has made an endorsement in the presidential election.” It had to be clarified because there were some posts on social media about MJ supporting Donald Trump in the race.
This brings back Michael Jordan’s clear stand on political matters. The only statement he ever made in this regard was in reference to Nike. During the fifth episode of ESPN’s “The Last Dance”, he explained his statement, “Republicans buy sneakers, too.” MJ responded, “I don’t think that statement needs to be corrected because I said it in jest on a bus with Horace Grant and Scottie Pippen.” It happened during the 1990 U.S. Senate race in North Carolina between incumbent Republican Jesse Helms and Democrat challenger Harvey Gantt.

“It was thrown off the cuff. My mother asked to do a PSA for Harvey Gantt, and I said, ‘Look, Mom, I’m not speaking out of pocket about someone that I don’t know. But I will send a contribution to support him.’ Which is what I did.” Does that mean that Michael Jordan doesn’t appreciate other people endorsing candidates?

Michael Jordan on activism and his ‘selfish’ motive
“I do commend Muhammad Ali for standing up for what he believed in. But I never thought of myself as an activist. I thought of myself as a basketball player.” Similarly, according to DailyMail.com, the North Carolina alum ‘supported’ James after the NBA star’s social media spat with Trump back in 2018.
“I wasn’t a politician when I was playing my sport. I was focused on my craft. Was that selfish? Probably. But that was my energy. That’s where my energy was.” Another favorite of Chicago, former President Barack Obama, who was in the documentary explained Michael Jordan’s conundrum. “You would’ve wanted to see Michael push harder on that.”

But Michael Jordan was very clear on his stance and that’s why he hasn’t changed his policy. “The way I go about my life is I set examples. If it inspires you? Great, I will continue to do that. If it doesn’t? Then maybe I’m not the person you should be following.” So, the endorsement and news about MJ supporting Trump were fake, and the representation swiftly released the statement.
