Dwyane Wade is a true all-rounder. Following his retirement, the 3x champion spent some time at TNT covering the NBA. However, he parted ways with the company to focus on his business ventures. Now, Wade’s experience at the Paris Olympics as a commentator for NBC has sparked a new interest in him to take on an analyst role in broadcasting. With NBC becoming one of the official broadcasters for the NBA starting in 2025, Wade might have a future here after all.

“I’ve never been an analyst. Jumping into the Olympics has been a big challenge,” Wade said during his interview with NBC. The Flash emphasized how it is different from his previous job at TNT. For TNT, his role was more of an analyst sitting in a studio. However, with NBC, he is lending his voice to the game’s official broadcast. The 42-year-old further expressed his concern about whether he would be able to relate to the listeners.

“It has to be the right situation for me. My platform is so different, I speak on so many things, I stand for certain things, I don’t know if everybody stands for what I believe in,” the Miami Heat legend stated.

While there was some criticism, Wade’s debut as a commentator was mostly praised by fans. His unique style of calling the game remained the highlight of the event. When asked whether he would like to return to television, Wade agreed, provided he receives the right compensation.

“If I can find all those things I’m looking for, if I get compensated the way I feel like I should get compensated, then yeah,” Wade said. The 3x NBA champion‘s trendsetting introduction of a player’s pronouns, He/Him, gained worldwide attention as he called Team USA’s game against Serbia at the Paris Olympics.

After his retirement in 2019, he joined TNT Sports and spent three years with the company. So why did he leave his job at TNT, and what influenced him to reconsider a career in TV?

Dwyane Wade wanted to pursue other businesses

Like his former teammate Shaquille O’Neal, and the late Kobe Bryant, the Heat legend wanted to build a massive business empire. The same year as his retirement, Wade decided to star in the show The Cube. By then, he had already acquired a minority stake in the Utah Jazz. The following year, he purchased a minority stake in the WNBA team, Chicago Sky. He has a successful production house producing Oscar-nominated films such as The Barber of Little Rock. He also has his own podcast, The Why.

Furthermore, his wine brand, Wade Cellars, has also been successful. Wade also has a lifetime deal with the sneaker brand Li Ning. His eldest son Zaire and friend also joined him on his trip to China after COVID-19, where his son signed a deal with the brand as well.

After his stint with TNT, the 3x NBA champion was quite busy. Now that his eldest daughter Zaya will be heading to college and his businesses are functioning smoothly, Wade understandably has some time to reconsider the opportunity to make a return to the broadcasting career.
