Shaq's $1.7M investment turning into $16M—Is he the smartest NBA legend off the court?

“Before I even got myself a place I had to buy my mom a palace because we grew up in small houses. I was very, very blessed, I got a lot of money, so I just had to make sure she was straight,” said Shaquille O’Neal in an interview in 2022. Growing up in a humble household with his mother, Shaq knew he had to secure her mother a place. And now through his foundation, O’Neal is more than willing to help others.

The Clark County will donate 4.81 acres of land to the Shaquille O’Neal Foundation in the northeast region of Las Vegas. The Foundation started in 2019 to help underserved youth, primarily from Atlanta, Georgia, and the Las Vegas region with appropriate resources and opportunities. The club building is expected to cost $16 million, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

However, it is unclear when the construction will start. The foundation is expected to adhere to obligations once the work is done. It also has to provide annual reports to Clark County about the available programs, highlighting the initiatives, fundraising efforts, and logistics regarding how many clients it has serviced.

In 2022, The Los Angeles Lakers legend announced ‘The Event’ to be held at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It had an amazing line-up of musical artists HER, Pitbull, Maroon 5, and many more. More than 1,500 guests and 5,000 concert attendees came forward for a gourmet dinner and live auction. Over $3.1 million was raised to benefit children through the Foundation. Apart from charity, Shaquille O’Neal is also focused on his portfolio as he seems to have invested in the Texas area.

The Chexy Trust, which has been involved in Shaq’s real estate transactions in the past, bought a home in Rockwall County at a market value of $1.7 million. The 4670-square-foot place also includes a 500-square-foot pool house. But did you know this was O’Neal’s second purchase in Texas?

Before this investment, Shaq had already secured a property in 2022. The same trust had purchased the house in Carrollton in Collin County, Texas. That came to light thanks to realtor Zac Gideo. He posted on Instagram about helping Shaq find a new home.
