The children of NBA legends are carving their own paths and building on the legacies of their superstar parents. From Bronny James, the rising basketball star and son of LeBron James, to Me’Arah, following in Shaquille O’Neal’s footsteps, these young talents are proving that greatness runs in their veins. Adding to this growing list is the 12-year-old son of former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins, whose recent accomplishments have sparked immense pride in his family.

Perkins, a towering presence both on and off the court, recently shared a proud moment on his Instagram Story, showcasing how his son Kenxton Perkins is being portrayed in the basketball community. While Perkins simply captioned the Story with a heartfelt three-word comment—“Keep Grinding son @kenxtonperkins”—those words encapsulated the immense joy and pride he feels as a father witnessing his son’s journey.

Class of 2030 Guard Kenxton Perkins on the Houston Raptors is an all around player with great passing skills, IQ, and vision on the court. Able to facilitate well while scoring at the rim or getting to his shots when needed. Great playmaker on either side of the court,” read the caption of the original post.

This touching moment comes shortly after Kendrick Perkins announced a significant milestone in his own career. Having transitioned seamlessly from NBA player to television analyst for ESPN in 2019, Perkins recently signed a multiyear extension deal with the media giant. According to this deal, the 40-year-old would become a fixture on ESPN NBA Countdown and he will also appear on ABC editions of NBA Countdown throughout the season.

“My long-term goal is for my next career that I’ve started to be better than my last career. And that’s saying a lot. But that’s my goal,” said Perkins in a recent podcast of Barber Brown.

Kendrick Perkins’ journey to the NBA was far from easy. Growing up in Beaumont, Texas, Perkins faced numerous challenges. Being drafted straight out of high school by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2003 NBA Draft, Perkins was traded to the Boston Celtics, where he became an integral part of their 2008 championship-winning team.

As he supports Kenxton in his pursuits, Perkins continues to inspire not only his family but also fans and aspiring athletes worldwide. However, two years back, the former champ praised his son differently.

Perkins, with a career scoring average of just 5.4 points per game, was never known for his offensive prowess. But his love for the game extends beyond his own stats, as seen in a recent viral moment featuring his son, Kenxton Perkins.

After Kenxton’s basketball highlights surfaced on X, Perkins excitedly referred to him as “Baby Jokić,” comparing his son’s skills to those of Nikola Jokić, the reigning NBA MVP known for his all-around brilliance on the court.

I’m raising my Killa different! I call him baby Jokic! The Complete package. Yes he’s only 10. Carry on…” read the caption of the tweet.

Jokić’s 2022 campaign was historic as he averaged 27.1 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 7.9 assists per game which earned him his second consecutive MVP award. For Perkins, to link Kenxton to such a dominant player, is both high praise and his hope for his son’s basketball future. Do you think Kenxton will achieve the same success as Jokic?
