Anthony Edwards’ comment on only Michael Jordan being skilled from the previous era got a lot of flak. But his former teammate Karl-Anthony Towns has been appreciative of the previous era and laying the blueprint for him and others to build on. So when he asked about the G.O.A.T. debate, KAT had a detailed answer, and it had nothing to do with the hilarious clip from the All-Star game a few years ago.

I can’t speak for everything I can. I wouldn’t be able to. But man, that man Bron different. That man, Bron, is something special.” Karl Anthony Towns spoke to Shannon Sharpe. “I’ve been in the league for 10 years now. Yeah. So I’ve seen Bron, and I’ve seen Bron in so many different stages. Yeah. I feel the LeBron’s the best player we’ve ever seen talent-wise.”

The new Knicks star continued, “I think he’s the best player you could now if you wanna get caught up in chips and rings and all that stuff. That’s, that’s up to people to debate,” via the Club Shay Shay podcast. One might wonder if it stems from the NBA 75th anniversary ceremony, where Michael Jordan said, “F**K you” to KAT. But it’s not as clarified by the Knicks Big himself. But before exploring that, let’s look at LeBron James’ numbers that impressed Anthony Towns.

As per the Center, he has seen the Lakers star evolve with the changing dynamism of the league. Plus, the evolution of King James’ 3-point shooting is what impressed the former Wolves’ star. And the stats point out the same, as LeBron had his best 3p% shooting ever with 41% last season. It’s a massive development from 32% from 2022 to 23.

That’s why, seeing the change himself, KAT called LeBron his GOAT. And coming to the Michael Jordan clip, the Big indeed saw the competitive nature of the Bulls star firsthand despite not playing against him.

Michael Jordan and the viral moment with KAT

The clip is from the 2022 All-Star weekend, the same where the NBA 75th was being honored. In the clip, Michael Jordan first hugged his fellow Jordan athlete Luka Doncic from behind. Then Karl-Anthony Towns came to speak to MJ, and it was just a 10-second-long meetup. “They were trying to rush him. I think they were trying to rush him because of the [NBA] 75 [ceremony],” Towns said.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Karl-Anthony Towns right in crowning LeBron over MJ, or is it pure blasphemy?

Despite being in a hurry, His Airness was quick to shower appreciation for KAT. “MJ looks at me, and he goes, ‘I remember what you did to my team. I see what you did to my team. F**k you.‘” While explaining, the 28-year-old could control his laughter, but the banter continued. “I said, Yeah. I like this energy. Yeah, I like this energy.” But the memorable part for him was when Michael Jordan had the last laugh.

And the funniest part—MJ’s so iconic and so competitive—he looks back at me and goes, ‘Yeah!‘” The game that the 6x NBA Champion was referring to was Towns’ performance against the Hornets a few days before the All-Star weekend. KAT led the Timberwolves with 39 points and 15 rebounds in a 126-120 overtime victory.
