What do you do when you are a bit stressed, even when the game is not helping? Well, Charles Barkley doesn’t mind watching a good and wholesome movie when he is not watching a basketball game or a football matchup. Chuck has his list of movies that left such an impact that he still remembers them! One such movie is The Italian Job. To mention, he has featured in one or two cameo appearances, such as Modern Family, Suits, and more. However, his little obsession with one actor ended him hilariously fumbling over an already chaotic situation.
From games to Oscars, Charles Barkley shares his candid thoughts on several affairs in The Steam Room podcast. So, when a phone request from a listener asked for Barkley’s take on this year’s Academy Award nominations, Ernie Johnson was reminded of the hilarious mistake Barkley made years ago when asked the same question. This was back in the first season of the podcast, and Chuck quickly named 1917 as his pick.
As he was always, Chuck was quite confident again. But that confidence faded quickly when the Philadelphia 76ers legend went on to explain it. Turns out he had never watched the movie. Funny, right? Finally, in the latest episode, he explained what had happened. He had initially gone to watch the movie 1917. However, this is where his man crush ruined things. He saw the movie The Gentlemen on the wall and quickly changed his decision. And he watched the film that featured Charlie instead of 1917. Oh! He mistakenly mixed up both movies.

“I’mma tell you what happened that day. I went to the movie theater to see 1917 then on the wall I saw the Gentlemen with Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnan…I have a little man crush on Charlie Hunnan and Henry Golding is in the movie also…I really enjoyed that movie. I was going to see 1917 (and) end up going seeing the Gentlemen…which was good,” Barkley explained. So, now we know!

But in the old episode, he still chose 1917, the British war film, as his pick. With 10 nominations for Academy Awards, 1917 won three, including Best Cinematography (Deakins), Best Sound Mixing (Taylor and Wilson), and Best Visual Effects. Well, is this the first time Barkley’s man crush has caused trouble for him?

It was in the 2016 Super Bowl. The Atlanta Falcons were set to face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI. And while he was a huge fan of Tom Brady, he decided to place his money on the Falcons. By halftime, the Falcons had a 28-3 lead, and this kept Barkley assured that he had a chance of winning his bet. “I was feeling myself. I was feeling no pain. The tequila was flowing, the vodka was flowing, they’re up 28-3,” Chuck said.
However, as soon as Brady entered the scene, he changed the game quickly, and the Falcons made a few mistakes. The Patriots won their sixth Super Bowl title. While his man crush won the matchup, Chuck lost his bet. And his loss is reportedly $100,000. Well, had Chuck supported Brady, he might not have had to lose!
