It was an unusual day at The Free Man in Deep Ellum. Bruno Mars’ band members borrowing the stage for a performance wouldn’t have been too surprising. But when The Worm suddenly took the stage to serenade the crowd, it was certainly a shocker and highly entertaining. The audience, including the bar owner, watched in awe and amusement as Dennis Rodman performed. As the bar’s owner put it, he’s “a born entertainer.”
Rodman is never one to fly under the radar. The Chicago Bulls legend wore a simple T-shirt featuring his own face, in true Rodman fashion. The crowd captured videos of him singing his heart out and posted them online. “He sang blues and funk,” said restaurant owner John Jay Myers.
The 5X NBA Champion’s appearances at this bar aren’t all that rare. As the owner explained, Rodman is their unofficial ambassador. The restaurant posted a clip of Rodman’s performance on its official Instagram Story.

This incident reminds us of the time when Rodman crashed a Pearl Jam concert and sang on stage for over 45 minutes. It was in 1998. Back to the present, while his performance took the crowd by surprise, they were clearly delighted.
Behind the microphone, Rodman was still his energetic, spirited self. He even claimed to have “built” Deep Ellum. That makes us wonder how many drinks he’s had at the time. This all comes just days after the tragic passing of his mother. But beneath the bravado, a softer side emerges.
Dennis Rodman penned a heartwarming message
The Chicago Bulls legend and his mother had a troubled relationship. As a young kid, Rodman longed for his parents’ love, while his mother struggled to keep their family of four together after his father left. Rodman’s mother, Shirley, had the task of being both mother and father to the children, but Rodman resented her for not being as loving as he had needed her to be.

In an interview with the New York Times, his mother even explained how tough it was for her. The situation was difficult for both of them. During his Hall of Fame speech, Rodman spoke candidly about the rocky relationship he had with his mother. He also had a similarly strained relationship with his father, who had abandoned them for 42 years.
However, he later reconnected with both parents and reconciled with his mother. Rodman shared numerous pictures of his mother in a carousel post on Instagram and penned a heartfelt message for her. “Thank you for the Memories ✨ Thank you for creating Me Dennis Rodman Thank you for being My Mother Forever My Angel 😇 RIP Mom!
