Shaq vs. an Olympic breakdancer—who do you think would win this epic dance-off?

Shaquille O’Neal is many things—an NBA legend, a larger-than-life personality, and, above all, a natural-born entertainer. His basketball dominance was only one side of his appeal; the other was his knack for creating memorable off-court moments. Whether it was cracking jokes, starring in movies, or making us laugh during interviews, Shaq knew how to entertain. Now, however, he’s setting his sights on something unexpected: the title of the world’s No. 1 breakdancer.

Recently, Shaq appeared on The Big Podcast with Udonis Haslem, where he shared stories from his extraordinary life. From his LSU days to his NBA career, Shaq’s adventures were endless. But when Haslem brought up a 2007 All-Star Weekend video of Shaq and LeBron James breaking it down on the dance floor, the conversation took an interesting turn. Haslem threw down the gauntlet, asking if Shaq would challenge viral Olympic breakdancer Ray Gun. Without hesitation, Shaq answered, “I would. I would.”

Not one to shy away from a challenge, Shaq took things a step further. When Haslem asked where and when this dance-off could go down, Shaq confidently replied on the podcast, “Any place, any time, Australia, wherever she wants it.” And if there was any doubt, he made his intentions crystal clear: “I sure am,” Shaq declared, as he set his sights on becoming the world’s top breakdancer. For anyone doubting Shaq’s love for dance, let’s not forget his DJ Diesel persona that’s been tearing up music festivals. But Shaq doesn’t just love music—he loves to dance, too.

Back during the COVID lockdown, he reminded everyone of his moves with a TikTok video, where he grooved alongside his sons Shareef and Shaquir to “Lean wit It, Rock wit It” by Dem Franchize Boyz. “Y’all [don’t] want none,” O’Neal teased as he tagged Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and other NBA stars. We may not have seen them rise to the challenge, but back in 2007, we witnessed an epic dance-off between Shaq, LeBron, and Dwight Howard.

Shaq vs LeBron vs Howard

Back in 2007, Shaquille O’Neal wasn’t just dominating the court—he was stealing the spotlight off it, too. During the All-Star weekend, Shaq turned a simple practice into an unforgettable moment—an epic break-dance face-off. With his signature flair, he walked up to LeBron James and challenged him to an impromptu dance battle, showing off some truly wild moves.

LeBron, who also a dance enthusiast, of course, couldn’t resist. But after his response, Shaq decided to take things up a notch by heading over to Dwight Howard, someone he’s always had a playful rivalry with. Shaq displayed even more moves, but let’s just say Howard’s attempt didn’t exactly blow him away. In his autobiography, Shaq Uncut, he didn’t hold back while reminiscing about that All-Star dance-off.

He gave props to LeBron, calling him a “great dancer,” but took a hilarious dig at Dwight, showing once again why Shaq’s charm always shines through, even when he’s dishing out jabs. “As usual, the NBA was counting on me to provide some All-Star entertainment, and I didn’t let them down,” Shaq wrote, adding, “I may have been ‘old,’ but the Big Shark still had the moves.” And, if you ask the crowd from that day, they’d probably agree—nobody out-danced Shaq.
